Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Fully Printed Electrocaloric Heat Pump

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A system based on a flexible printed PEDOT:PSS/P(VDF‐TrFE‐CFE) electrocaloric membrane. The membrane periodically alternates between the cold and hot sides following its electrocaloric cycle and successfully generates a temperature difference. The entire fabrication process is industrially scalable, cost‐effective, and based on widely accessible ...

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Alternate reality games for developing student autonomy and peer learning

open access: yes, 2008
This paper discusses the educational potential of alternate reality games (ARGs), a relatively new game format that takes place both online and in the real world over a number of weeks, and combines narrative and puzzles to develop a collaborative ...

Piezoresistivity Enhancement by Graphite Flake Alignment in Thin Composite Films for Dielectric Elastomer Switches

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article presents dielectric elastomer switch (DES) materials, based on composite thin films. Alignment of graphite flakes due to their physical confinement within the thin films lead to much stronger piezoresistive responses than bulk composites, while their durability exceeds that of conventional liquid‐based DES materials.

An AI‐Enabled All‐In‐One Visual, Proximity, and Tactile Perception Multimodal Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Targeting integrated multimodal perception of robots, an AI‐enabled all‐in‐one multimodal sensor is proposed. This sensor is capable of perceiving three types of modalities, including vision, proximity, and tactility. By toggling an ultraviolet light and adjusting the camera focus, it switches smoothly between multiple perceptual modalities, enabling ...

Performative Disciplinarity in Alternate Reality Games from Foucault to McKenzie and Beyond

open access: yes, 2017
For Foucault, discipline was a subtle form of power that coerced the body in order to control its movements, attitudes, and moods. For McKenzie, it is oppressive-excessive performance that takes the place of overt disciplinarity in the twenty-first ...
