Inequality Comparisons in a Multi-Period Framework: The Role of Alternative Welfare Metrics [PDF]
This paper considers the use of alternative welfare metrics in evaluations of income inequality in a multi-period context. Using Norwegian longitudinal income data, it is found, as in many studies, that inequality is lower when each individual’s annual ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Analysis of classification metric behaviour under class imbalance
Class imbalance is the phenomenon defined as skewed target variable distributions in a dataset. In other words class imbalance occurs when a dataset has an unequal proportion of target variables assigned to the instances in the dataset.

Alternatives to standard puncture initial data for binary black hole evolution
Standard puncture initial data have been widely used for numerical binary black hole evolutions despite their shortcomings, most notably the inherent lack of gravitational radiation at the initial time that is later followed by a burst of spurious ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Two-dimensional Riemannian and Lorentzian geometries from second order ODEs
In this note we give an alternative geometrical derivation of the results recently presented by Garcia-Godinez, Newman and Silva-Ortigoza in [1] on the class of all two-dimensional riemannian and lorentzian metrics from 2nd order ODEs which are in ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
