International cooperation for alternatives to animal testing

open access: yesFolia Pharmacologica Japonica, 2011
(JaCVAM: Japanese Center for the Validation of Alternative Methods)の活動状況および今後の国際対応についてまとめた.本来なら ...

Giving meaning to alternative methods to animal testing

open access: yesALTEX, 2018
The 3 rd edition of the advanced theoretical-training course “ Giving meaning to alternative methods to animal testing ” was held in Genoa on July 6-7, 2017. The theoretical modules included talks by specialists from companies engaged in the field of advanced in vitro technologies, who offered participants the possibility to try out their technologies ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Next generation validation for next generation risk assessment

open access: yesFrontiers in Toxicology
Next generation risk assessment (NGRA) demands a fundamental transformation in how toxicological test methods are validated. Traditional validation approaches, designed for animal tests and mainly for simple in vitro methods, are increasingly inadequate ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Evidence-based AI: from trailblazer to trustblazer?

open access: yesFrontiers in Artificial Intelligence
Agentic AI systems can plan, call tools, and coordinate specialized sub-agents, enabling multi-step scientific workflows that exceed what single-model text generation can reliably deliver.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The (misleading) role of animal models in drug development

open access: yesFrontiers in Drug Discovery
Animals like mice and rats have long been used in medical research to help understand disease and test potential new treatments before human trials. However, while animal studies have contributed to important advances, too much reliance on animal models ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
