Synergy of Subgroup J Avian Leukosis Virus and Chicken Infectious Anemia Virus Enhances the Pathogenicity in Chickens

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Subgroup J avian leukemia virus (ALV-J) and chicken infectious anemia virus (CIAV) are widely acknowledged as significant immunosuppressive pathogens that commonly co-infect chickens, causing substantial economic losses in the poultry industry.

Models of the water retention curve for soils with a fractal pore size distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The relationship between water content and water potential for a soil is termed its water retention curve. This basic hydraulic property is closely related to the soil pore size distribution, for which it serves as a conventional method of measurement ...

Age‐specific breast cancer incidence by subtype, TNM stage and screening status in Sweden 2008–2019 estimated with multiple imputation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Breast cancer incidence in women increases with age, but which subtypes contribute the most at different ages remains unclear. Incidence patterns of breast cancer subtypes are typically under‐reported in population‐based studies due to a high proportion of cases lacking subtype information.

In Situ Synthesized Glycerol‐Releasing Nanocarriers Unlock Superlubricity in Oil‐Based Lubricants

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study presents an in situ synthesis of glycerol‐based nanocarriers in hydrophobic lubricant oils via inverse miniemulsion polymerization. Encapsulating glycerol within a glycerol‐based polyurethane shell resolves miscibility issues between glycerol and the hydrophobic base oil, yielding novel nanoadditives with tunable glycerol loading.

Rethinking Sustainability Consciousness: A Holistic Approach to Understanding Its Determinants in the Food Industry

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Consumers increasingly seek sustainable food options, yet behavior lags stated concern. However, a gap existed on how value–belief–norm and ecological worldviews shaped sustainability consciousness, especially across cultures. Addressing this gap, we integrated Value–Belief–Norm theory with New Ecological Paradigm dimensions to analyze student

Gp85 protein encapsulated by alginate-chitosan composite microspheres induced strong immunogenicity against avian leukosis virus in chicken [PDF]

open access: yes
IntroductionAvian leukosis, a viral disease affecting birds such as chickens, presents significant challenges in poultry farming due to tumor formation, decreased egg production, and increased mortality. Despite the absence of a commercial vaccine, avian

High Power Density for All‐Fe2VAl‐based Thermoelectric Module by Enhancing the Power Factor of p‐type Leg Through Defect‐Engineering and Wetting Effect

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The high thermoelectric performance of Fe2VAl stems from its sharply rising band edges on either side of the band gap, which is highly sensitive to composition. Addressing reproducibility and scale‐up challenges, we have developed a strategy to enhance its p‐type thermoelectric performance by defects and grain boundary engineering through ...

ALV-J strain SCAU-HN06 induces innate immune responses in chicken primary monocyte-derived macrophages

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2017
Avian leucosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) can cause lifelong infection and can escape from the host immune defenses in chickens. Since macrophages act as the important defense line against invading pathogens in host innate immunity, we investigated the function and innate immune responses of chicken primary monocyte-derived macrophages (MDM) after ALV-J ...

An avian retrovirus uses canonical expression and processing mechanisms to generate viral microRNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To date, the vast majority of known virus-encoded microRNAs (miRNAs) are derived from polymerase II transcripts encoded by DNA viruses. A recent demonstration that the bovine leukemia virus, a retrovirus, uses RNA polymerase III to directly transcribe ...

Phylogeny, species delimitation and machine learning bridge the gap between DNA sequences and morphology in the lichen genus Arctomia (Arctomiaceae, Ascomycota)

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates species boundaries in the lichen genus Arctomia (Arctomiaceae, Ascomycota) using an integrative approach combining molecular phylogenetics, full Bayesian population delimitation, heuristic and model‐based species delimitation, and supervised machine learning applied to morphological data.
