Glycinergic amacrine cells of the rat retina

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1998
Physiological studies of neurons of the inner retina, e.g., of amacrine cells, are now possible in a mammalian retinal slice preparation. The present anatomical study characterizes glycinergic amacrine cells of the rat retina and thus lays the ground for such future physiological and pharmacological experiments.

Displaced amacrine cells of the mouse retina

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 2007
AbstractThe aim of this study was to characterize and classify the displaced amacrine cells in the mouse retina. Amacrine cells in the ganglion cell layer were injected with fluorescent dyes in flat‐mounted retinas. Dye‐filled displaced amacrine cells were classified according to dendritic field size, horizontal and vertical stratification patterns ...

Cell populations of the ganglion cell layer: displaced amacrine and matching amacrine cells in the pigeon retina

Experimental Brain Research, 1984
The proportion and size distribution of ganglion and non-ganglion cells in the ganglion cell layer of different areas of the pigeon retina was examined in whole-mounts of the retina by retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) from large brain injections. A maximum of 98% of cells were labelled in the red field and a maximum of 77% in

Amacrine-to-Amacrine Cell Inhibition in the Rabbit Retina

Journal of Neurophysiology, 2008
We studied the interactions between excitation and inhibition in morphologically identified amacrine cells in the light-adapted rabbit retinal slice under patch clamp. The majority of on amacrine cells received glycinergic off inhibition. About half of the off amacrine cells received glycinergic on inhibition.

Amacrine cells, displaced amacrine cells and interplexiform cells in the retina of the rat

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1980
Abstract The amacrine cells in the retina of the rat are described in Golgi-stained whole-mounted retinae. Nine morphologically distinct types of cell were found: one type of diffuse cell, five types of unistratified cell, two types of bistratified cell, and one type of stratified diffuse cell.
