Synthesis of the amaryllidaceae alkaloid, lycorine
Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1975A key intermediate for the total synthesis of lycorine has been prepared in racemic form; the optically pure form of this epoxylycorinane lactam, obtained from lycorine, has been reconverted into the alkaloid.

Amaryllidaceae Alkaloids and Colchicine
1968About one hundred alkaloids are known from the family Amaryllidaceae. In their route of biosynthesis they bear several resemblances to the morphine alkaloids. In each type there are two six-membered rings derived from aromatic amino acids; and the additional ring closures are apparently produced by a mechanism of phenolate free radical coupling.

Phytochemistry, 1988Ungiminorine N-oxide was isolated from Pancratium maritimum, and homolycorine N-oxide and O-methyl lycorenine N-oxide from Lapiedra martinezii. These compounds represent the first examples of naturally occurring N-oxides from the Amaryllidaceae. © 1988.
