A Neutrosophic Entropy-Based Statistical Model for Uncertainty Quantification in Mixed-Type Linguistic Data: Application to University Korean Language Teaching Management Innovation Evaluation [PDF]

open access: yesNeutrosophic Sets and Systems
Quantifying uncertainty in datasets that combine numerical and linguistic information poses a unique challenge to classical probabilistic frameworks, especially when ambiguity, vagueness, and partial truth are present.

Distinct Systemic Sclerosis Phenotypes Related to Ethnicity: An Opportunity to Personalize Care?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective is to describe and compare demographic, clinical, and serological characteristics of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) according to ethnic background. Methods Participants enrolled in the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group cohort who self‐identified to a single ethnicity group were included.

Instantaneous Ambiguity Reinitialization and Fast Ambiguity Initialization for L1-L2 GPS Measurements [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2020
This paper presents a PREcise and Fast Method of Ambiguity Reinitialization/Resolution (PREFMAR) for L1 and L2 in GPS measurements. The method determines NL1 and NL2 ambiguities based on the ambiguity functions: Ψ(NL1)NL1NL2 and Ψ(NL2)NL2NL1. These ambiguity functions have been described in detail in this work.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Quasi-option value under ambiguity [PDF]

open access: yes
Real investments involving irreversibility and ambiguity embed a positive quasi-option value under ambiguity (q.o.v.a.), which modifies the evaluation of an investment decision involving depletion of natural resources by increasing the value of delaying.

Ambiguity distance: an edge evaluation measure using fuzziness of edges

open access: yes, 2019
Most edge detection methods have parameters (threshold values or standard deviation of Gaussian operator for smoothing) to be set, and these parameters make much influence on the outputs of the detectors.

Need for cognitive closure, tolerance for ambiguity, and perfectionism in medical school applicants

open access: yesBMC Medical Education, 2020
Background Physicians have to deal with uncertainty on a daily basis, which requires high tolerance for ambiguity. When medical decisions have to be made in ambiguous situations, low levels of need for cognitive closure and high levels of adaptive ...

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Confidence and ambiguity [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes a model of the decision-maker’s confidence in his probability judgements, in terms of an implausibility measure – a real-valued function on the set of probability functions.
