Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

Direct asymmetric synthesis of β-branched aromatic α-amino acids using engineered phenylalanine ammonia lyases

open access: yesNature Communications
β-Branched aromatic α-amino acids are valuable building blocks in natural products and pharmaceutically active compounds. However, their chemical or enzymatic synthesis is challenging due to the presence of two stereocenters.

X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...

Interaction of Atmospheric-Pressure Air Microplasmas with Amino Acids as Fundamental Processes in Aqueous Solution.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Plasma medicine is a relatively new field that investigates potential applications of cold atmospheric-pressure plasmas in bioengineering, such as for bacterial inactivation and degradation of organic molecules in water.

Water‐Compatible SuFEx‐Active Diazonium Linchpin Platform for Rapid Modular Diversification and On‐DNA Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sulfur fluoride exchange (SuFEx) is a powerful click platform, yet water‐compatible multifunctional linchpins remain elusive. Here, we report decagram‐scalable diazonium linchpins that enable rapid Pd‐catalyzed diversification and direct, catalyst‐free on‐DNA ligation in aqueous media.

Free amino acid concentration in serum and trapezius muscle from male and female silver foxes (Vulpes vulpes)

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2019
Serum and muscle concentrations of 29 amino acids were determined in Silver fox. Serum concentrations of proline, alanine, tyrosine and aromatic amino acids were significantly higher in males than in females (all P = 0.05).

Diabetes risk and amino acid profiles: cross-sectional and prospective analyses of ethnicity, amino acids and diabetes in a South Asian and European cohort from the SABRE (Southall And Brent REvisited) Study.

open access: yes, 2015
Aims/hypothesis: South Asian individuals have an increased risk of diabetes compared with Europeans that is unexplained by obesity and traditional or established metabolic measures.

Towards the directed evolution of an L-aspartate oxidase from Pseudomonas putida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Amino acid oxidases (AAOs) are enantioselective flavoenzymes that catalyse the oxidation of amino acids into imino acids, which spontaneously hydrolyse in water to form keto acids. AAOs have several potential applications, most notably as biocatalysts in

Clusterization‐Triggered Emission from Cellulose‐Based Luminophores in Dilute Aqueous Solution through Imine Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Clusterization‐triggered emission is realized in dilute aqueous solution by introducing imine linkages into cellulose‐based luminophores. Imine functionalization creates O/N‐rich, hydrogen‐bonded clustered microenvironments that stabilize emissive states and restrict molecular motions. Luminescence is tunable by amine type and multiplicity.

Synthesis of pentafluorosulfanyl (SF5) containing aromatic amino acids

open access: yes, 2018
Herein, a series of aromatic pentafluorosulfanyl (SF5) containing amino acids are reported. A Negishi cross-coupling strategy utilising a catalyst system of Pd(dba)2 and SPhos afforded the aforementioned SF5 amino acids in yields between 32% and 42%. Two
