Quantifying the Effects of Geometric Parameters on the Elastic Properties of Multilayer Graphene Platelet Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Realistic random 3D periodic representative volume element models of multilayer graphene platelet films are constructed to perform simulations, quantify the effects of different geometric parameters on all their five independent elastic properties, and uncover the dominant deformation mechanisms.

Concomitant t(8;21) and trisomy 4 in a patient with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The t(8;21)(q22;q22) is a frequently occurring aberration in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (18-20%) and usually correlate with French-America-British (FAB) M2 subtype.

High‐Pressure Homogenization: An Industrially Scalable Method for Producing PHBH Powders for Selective Laser Sintering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This article investigates a sustainable approach to producing new powders for selective laser sintering by using high‐pressure homogenization to micronize biopolymers. The approach yields flowable, thermally stable particles with sub‐rounded morphology, enabling 3D printing of dense components with complex geometries.

Self‐Assembly of a Tripodal Terpyridine Based Ligand with Luminescent Lanthanide Ions in Solution and Soft Material

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
The tripodal terpyridine‐1,3,5‐benzene tricarboxamide (BTA) ligand 1 is employed in the self‐assembly formation of novel luminescent materials using a range of lanthanide ions. In the polar protic solution, the results from the photophysical measurements are assessed using nonlinear regression analysis, while the functional material properties of the ...

Evolution of vortices in the wake of an ARJ21 airplane: Application of the lift-drag model

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2020
: Wake separation is crucial to aircraft landing safety and is an important factor in airport operational efficiency. The near-ground evolution characteristics of wake vortices form the foundation of the wake separation system design.

Sensing Performance Analysis on Quartz Tuning Fork-Probe at the High Order Vibration Mode for Multi-Frequency Scanning Probe Microscopy

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Multi-frequency scanning near-field optical microscopy, based on a quartz tuning fork-probe (QTF-p) sensor using the first two orders of in-plane bending symmetrical vibration modes, has recently been developed.

Prenatal origin of childhood AML occurs less frequently than in childhood ALL [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Background While there is enough convincing evidence in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the data on the pre-natal origin in childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are less comprehensive.

Mechanical Interactions Impact the Functions of Immune Cells and Their Application in Immunoengineering

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
This review covers the mechanical forces experienced by immune cells through cell–cell and cell–extracellular matrix interactions and how these forces influence their receptors and functions. These relationships between forces and cellular functions can be exploited using engineering techniques to modify the physical properties of materials for novel ...

Structures, properties, and functions of the stings of honey bees and paper wasps: a comparative study

open access: yesBiology Open, 2015
Through natural selection, many animal organs with similar functions have evolved different macroscopic morphologies and microscopic structures. Here, we comparatively investigate the structures, properties and functions of honey bee stings and paper ...
