2-Arylacetic anhydrides as ammonium enolate precursors

open access: yes, 2014
This work is supported by funding from the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland and EPSRCReadily prepared 2-arylacetic anhydrides act as convenient ammonium enolate precursors in isothiourea (HBTM-2.1)-mediated catalytic asymmetric ...

Nitrogen removal in marine environments: recent findings and future research challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Respiratory reduction of nitrate (denitrification) is recognized as the most important process converting biologically available (fixed) nitrogen to N2. In current N cycle models, a major proportion of global marine denitrification (50–70%) is assumed to

Deposition and Transformation of Nitrogen after Soil Fumigation with Ethanedinitrile

open access: yesHortScience, 2020
A novel methyl bromide alternative, ethanedinitrile (EDN), has been reported to be efficacious against soil-borne pathogens, weeds, and plant-parasitic nematodes.

Speckle‐Engineered Upconversion Amplification in Nanoemulsion‐Templated Hydrogel Microdomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion‐confined PEGDA microdomes generate speckle‐like excitation fields that strongly amplify upconversion luminescence upon dehydration, enabling filter‐free visible readout with reversible on–off switching. DMD‐based lithography yields scalable, shape‐programmable arrays for moisture‐responsive displays and optical encryption.

Carboxylates and the uptake of ammonium by excised maize roots

open access: yes, 1975
The effect of carboxylates (organic acid anions) on NH 4 uptake was studied by changing the carboxylate level of roots prior to uptake experi ments. Succinate was the most effective stimulator of ammonium uptake.

Mixed nitrogen forms enhance growth and photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency by optimizing nitrogen metabolism and leaf N allocation in Gisela 6 cherry rootstock

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Nitrogen (N) is the most important nutrient for plant growth and development. However, the mechanisms by which the form and supply of N regulate the growth and N utilization of cherry rootstock are unclear at present.

Multiplex Modular Nanorobotic Systems with Catalytic Activity under Magnetic Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present modular nanorobots composed of a magnetic propulsion module and different extension modules carrying functional activities, assembled via DNA base pairing. The system integrates propulsion, optical tracking, enzymatic catalysis, and cell docking in a programmable manner.

Role of electronic structure on nitrate reduction to ammonium: a periodic journey

open access: yes, 2022
Electrocatalytic reduction of waste nitrate to ammonium provides a circular process with reduced carbon dioxide emissions compared to current nitrate treatment and ammonia production processes. However, electrocatalysts require a delicate balance between
