New Nitrogen-Containing Recycled Fertilizers: Bioavailability of Nutrients and Harmful Elements
Environmental policies of the European Union aim to increase recycling and re-use of waste-streams. One of the economically most profitable ways of re-using waste is to use it as a fertilizer.

In the wake of modest surface blooms that occur at the onset of the growth season in the nitrogen-poor surface waters of the Beaufort Sea, subsurface chlorophyll maxima (SCM) develop and persist within the nutrient-rich halocline.

Ammonium diphosphitoindate(III) [PDF]
The crystal structure of the title compound, NH4[In(HPO3)2], is built up from In(III) cations (site symmetry 3m.) adopting an octa-hedral environment and two different phosphite anions (each with site symmetry 3m.) exhibiting a triangular-pyramidal geometry. Each InO6 octa-hedron shares its six apices with hydrogen phosphite groups.

Alkaline water electrolysers are ideal for gigawatt-scale hydrogen production due to the usage of non-precious metal and low-cost raw materials. However, their performances are modest with the separated electrode and diaphragm structure which can date ...

The discovery of extraterrestrial reservoirs of liquid water has motivated missions to icy moons Europa and Titan. Tentative evidence of ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) has been detected on the surface of Europa, and (NH4)2SO4 could be a prominent ...

Synergistic effects of nitrogen metabolites on auxin regulating plant growth and development
Nitrogen is one of the important nutrients required for plant growth and development. There is increasing evidences that almost all types of nitrogen metabolites affect, at least to some extent, auxin content and/or signaling in plants, which in turn ...

A mathematical model of bacteria capable of complete oxidation of ammonium predicts improved nitrogen removal and reduced production of nitrous oxide [PDF]
The removal of excess nutrients from water ecosystems requires oxidation of toxic ammonium by two types of bacteria; one oxidizes ammonium to nitrite and the other oxidizes nitrite to nitrate.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Factors affecting ammonium uptake in streams - an inter-biome perspective [PDF]
The Lotic Intersite Nitrogen experiment (LINX) was a coordinated study of the relationships between North American biomes and factors governing ammonium uptake in streams. Our objective was to relate inter-biome variability of ammonium uptake to physical,

Reorientational Dynamics and Solid-Phase Transformation of Ammonium Dicyanamide into Dicyandiamide [PDF]
The reorientational dynamics of ammonium dicyanamide ND4[N(C≡N)2] and the kinetics as well as the mechanism of the solid-state isomerization reaction from ammonium dicyanamide into dicyandiamide (N≡C-N=C(NH2)2) was studied by means of 2H and 14N solid ...
