Carbon Black–Enhanced Polyethylene Wax Phase Change Materials for Efficient Photothermal Energy Conversion and Storage in Mobile Heating Systems

open access: yesEnergies
Organic phase change materials (PCMs) have been used and studied for many years. In this work, we focus on an industrially available PCM—polyethylene waxes (PEW) modified with seven types of carbon black (CB) exhibiting different properties. Carbon black

The Amorphous-Crystal Interface in Silicon: a Tight-Binding Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The structural features of the interface between the cystalline and amorphous phases of Si solid are studied in simulations based on a combination of empirical interatomic potentials and a nonorthogonal tight-binding model.

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Relative Contributions of Solubility and Mobility to the Stability of Amorphous Solid Dispersions of Poorly Soluble Drugs: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2018
Amorphous solid dispersions are considered a promising formulation strategy for the oral delivery of poorly soluble drugs. The limiting factor for the applicability of this approach is the physical (in)stability of the amorphous phase in solid samples ...

Investigation on Strength and Microstructural Evolution of Porous Cu/Cu Brazed Joints Using Cu-Ni-Sn-P Filler

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Porous Copper (Cu) was brazed to Cu plates using Cu-9.7Sn-5.7Ni-7P amorphous filler metal. The effects of brazing parameters on the porous Cu and brazed joints were investigated. The furnace brazing temperatures employed were 660 °C and 680 °C,

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Enhanced Gamma Radiation Shielding Using Epoxy Quartz Fabric Composites Reinforced With CoCl2 Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The growing demand for lightweight, nontoxic, and multifunctional gamma shielding materials has intensified efforts to find alternatives to conventional lead and aluminum‐based protectants. In this work, we develop epoxy quartz fabric composites reinforced with cobalt chloride (CoCl2) microparticles, fabricated via hand lay‐up with varying filler ...
