The Cutaneous Melatoninergic System: Endogenous Biology and Potential for Therapeutic Targeting

open access: yesExperimental Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Melatonin is best known as a pineal hormone that regulates circadian rhythms, but the skin also possesses an intrinsic melatoninergic system capable of local synthesis, metabolism and signalling. This system encompasses classical melatonin receptors, biologically active metabolites, non‐classical signalling pathways and receptor‐independent ...

Created Ex Nihilo: A Near‐Infrared Afterglow Luminescent Framework of Imidazole Derivatives for Bioimaging

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 43, 19 October 2026.
A series of Ir(III) complexes (Ir‐1‐Ir‐4) based on imidazole derivatives provide a new afterglow luminescence mechanism. The work expands the range of afterglow luminescence frameworks to overcome: (i) a lack of new afterglow scaffolds; (ii) the dependence on initial external light activation; and (iii) aggregation‐caused quenching.

Sustainable Routes Toward Amino Acid‐Based Surfactants: Borrowing Hydrogen Catalysis and Beyond

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
This perspective examines how amino acid‐based surfactants become more sustainable only when molecular architecture is matched to an appropriate synthetic disconnection. Borrowing Hydrogen catalysis provides a central route to N‐alkylated derivatives, while enzymatic, biosynthetic, and renewable‐platform strategies complement it.

Carba‐closo‐dodecaborates as Superchaotropic Anions

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 40, 27 October 2026.
The singly charged boron cluster anion CB11H12– forms strong inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins, interacts strongly with nonionic polymers, and serves as an effective transmembrane carrier, positioning itself as the smallest superchaotropic anion known to date. .

Synthesis and Fluorescence Profiling of Naphthylamine Analogs

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
N‐phenyl‐1‐naphthylamine (NPN) has been historically used as a probe to monitor gram‐negative bacterial outer membrane permeabilization, fluorescing only in hydrophobic environments. Herein, a 95‐membered naphthylamine library was synthesized to explore structure–fluorescence relationships, informed by density functional theory studies.

Protein‐Independent Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation of Adenosine Triphosphate Under Crowded Conditions

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 38, 13 October 2026.
ATP itself is able to undergo liquid–liquid phase separation in the presence of the macromolecular crowding agent PEG and physiological ATP concentrations are sufficient for phase separation in the presence of mM Mg2+ and crowders, mimicking intracellular conditions.
