Pathway Selection in Peptide Amphiphile Assembly

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2014
The nature of supramolecular structures could be strongly affected by the pathways followed during their formation just as mechanisms and final outcomes in chemical reactions vary with the conditions selected. So far this is a largely unexplored area of supramolecular chemistry.

Semiconductor-Encapsulated Peptide−Amphiphile Nanofibers

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2004
We report here on the use of peptide-amphiphile (PA) nanofibers displaying the S(P)RGD peptide sequence on their exterior as templates for the mineralization of cadmium sulfide (CdS). At low Cd:PA ratios, the nanofibers nucleate and organize quantum-confined 3-5 nm CdS nanocrystals into linear arrays.

Power struggles in peptide-amphiphile nanostructures

Chemical Society Reviews, 2010
Inspired by the ubiquitous functions fulfilled by native proteins, the self-assembly of peptide amphiphiles (PAs) holds much promise for the creation of functional nanostructures. Typically, PAs are constructed by conjugating blocks of very different character: a hydrophilic peptide segment with a hydrophobic element (an alkyl chain, lipid, polymer or ...

Effects of Anions on Nanostructuring of Cationic Amphiphilic Peptides

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2011
The effects of addition of a series of stoichiometric salts on the nanostructuring of cationic amphiphilic peptides have been investigated through the combination of atomic force microscopy (AFM), circular dichroism (CD), and turbidity measurements. The results revealed that anions had more pronounced effects than cations in tuning the nanostructures ...

Peptide Amphiphile Micelles for Vaccine Delivery

2018
Peptide subunit vaccines enable the specific activation of an immune response without the shortcomings of killed or attenuated pathogens. However, peptide subunit vaccines tend to be less immunogenic than those based on whole organisms. To improve peptide immunogenicity, biomaterials-based platforms have been developed.

Peptide amphiphile self-assembly

EPL (Europhysics Letters), 2017
Self-assembly is a process whereby molecules organize into structures with hierarchical order and complexity, often leading to functional materials. Biomolecules such as peptides, lipids and DNA are frequently involved in self-assembly, and this leads to materials of interest for a wide variety of applications in biomedicine, photonics, electronics ...

Amphiphilic gels for peptide synthesis

Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry, 1992
AbstractA new class of “amphiphilic” copoly(styrene‐acrylamide)s of potential interest for peptide synthesis is described. As examples of the new polymers, those carrying nitrophenol or piperazine functionality were used for model reactions in peptide synthesis, and were found to be substantially more efficient than similar reagents derived from ...

Amphiphilic Peptide with Dual Functionality Resists Biofouling

Langmuir, 2020
Biofouling, the accumulation of organisms on surfaces, can lead to several undesirable phenomena, including hospital-acquired infections, blockage of water purification systems, and food contamination. The solution to the problem should be nontoxic and environmentally friendly, so that it could be applied on different surfaces and could come into ...
