Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Towards High‐Acuity Vision Restoration: Hybrid Retinal Prosthesis Composed of a High‐Density Multielectrode Array Integrated With Glutamatergic Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel Hybrid Retinal Implant (HRI), composed of a high‐density electrode array integrated with glutamatergic neurons to overcome key limitations of current retinal prostheses. The significant reduction of activation threshold and of electrode cross‐talk yields in an improved spatial resolution.

Stability studies with amphotericin B and amphotericin B methyl ester.

open access: yesThe Journal of Antibiotics, 1975
In solid form, amphotericin B and amphotericin B methyl ester free base exhibit similar stability. Acid salts of the methyl ester derivative stored under identical conditions are less stable. In solution, amphotericin B is generally more stable than its methy ester salts.

3D Differentiation of Bone‐Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells into the Keratocyte Lineage for Corneal Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel differentiation protocol for generating corneal stromal keratocyte‐like cells using drop‐on‐demand bioprinting and a collagen‐based hydrogel. The bioprinted constructs maintained a stable dome shape over 21 days while exhibiting upregulated CSK markers postdifferentiation.

Quercetin and rutin as potential agents antifungal against Cryptococcus spp

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Amphotericin B is a fungicidal substance that is treatment of choice for most systemic fungal infections affecting as cryptococcosis the immunocompromised patients. However, severe side effects have limited the utility of this drug. The aim of this study

Pharmacokinetics of amphotericin B in children [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1989
Amphotericin B is the most effective agent for the majority of systemic fungal infections but often causes toxicity, and specific dosage guidelines for amphotericin B in pediatric patients are lacking. The purpose of this study was to characterize the pharmacokinetics of amphotericin B in children.

Fluid Shear‐Controlled Pro/Anti‐Inflammatory Osteomodulatory Construct for Drug‐Free Immune Activation Through Cationic Ion Channel Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed PCL scaffold coated with Arginine was laminated with electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers containing cationic cellulose nanocrystals (PVA@cCNC). This created nanoisland‐like regions of aligned and random cCNC‐rich fibers. The composite scaffold, under fluid shear stimulation, modulated macrophage polarization from M1 to M2 ...

Orally Administered Amphotericin B Nanoformulations: Physical Properties of Nanoparticle Carriers on Bioavailability and Clinical Relevance

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
Amphotericin B is an effective polyene antifungal considered as a “gold standard” in the management of fungal infections. Currently, it is administered mainly by IV due to poor aqueous solubility, which precludes its delivery orally.

Amphotericin B: delivery systems [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1990
Because the clinical utility of amphotericin B (AmB) is limited by its toxicity of host cells, an important question is how to best direct it specifically to the fungus or at least to the site of infection or, alternatively, how to keep it away from the host cells. One strategy is to use a vehicle other than deoxycholate.

Si Inhibited Osteoclastogenesis: The Role of Fe and the Fenton Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Silicate (Si) inhibition of osteoclastogenesis, is mediated by Fe. Si chemical interactions with Fe inhibit the Fenton reaction and intercellular ROS availability. This reduction in ROS availability inhibits osteoclastogenesis. The addition of Fe, in Si‐inhibited osteoclast cultures, restores the Fenton reaction, and osteoclastogenesis.
