Extracting Conformational Ensembles of Small Molecules from Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Ampicillin as a Test Case

open access: yesComputation, 2016
The accurate and exhaustive description of the conformational ensemble sampled by small molecules in solution, possibly at different physiological conditions, is of primary interest in many fields of medicinal chemistry and computational biology ...

Toxin ζ Reversible Induces Dormancy and Reduces the UDP-N-Acetylglucosamine Pool as One of the Protective Responses to Cope with Stress

open access: yesToxins, 2014
Toxins of the ζ/PezT family, found in the genome of major human pathogens, phosphorylate the peptidoglycan precursor uridine diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine (UNAG) leading to unreactive UNAG-3P.

Simultaneous Quantification of Ampicillin and Kanamycin in Water Samples Based on Lateral Flow Aptasensor Strip with an Internal Line

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In this work, a simple and rapid method based on the lateral flow assay (LFA) has been developed for the detection of dual antibiotics. To achieve the quantitative assay and to reduce the non-specific adsorption, an internal system has been developed.

Multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus spp. in houseflies and blowflies from farms and their environmental settings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Antimicrobial resistance is rising globally at an alarming rate. While multiple active surveillance programs have been established to monitor the antimicrobial resistance, studies on the environmental link to antimicrobial spread are lacking.

Mortality rate in patients with nosocomial Acinetobacter meningitis from a Brazilian hospital

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
BACKGROUND: The mortality rate due to Acinetobacter baumannii nosocomial meningitis (ANM) is high. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors that have influence over the outcomes in ANM patients. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 22

Eradication, Strain Preservation, Strain Change — Outcomes of Helicobacter pylori Therapy

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2021
Relevance. If we reduce the treatment exclusively to the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (Hp), the question of monitoring the results of anti-Hp therapy is controversial, given the widely known data on the detection of Hp, including virulent strains ...

Seasonal variations in antibiotic resistance gene transport in the Almendares River, Havana, Cuba [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Numerous studies have quantified antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) in rivers and streams around the world, and significant relationships have been shown that relate different pollutant outputs and increased local ARG levels.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Enhanced antibiotic activity of ampicillin conjugated to gold nanoparticles on PEGylated rosette nanotubes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nanomedicine, 2019
Purpose This work presents the preparation of a nanocomposite of ampicillin-conjugated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and self-assembled rosette nanotubes (RNTs), and evaluates its antibacterial properties against two strains of drug-resistant bacteria ...

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...
