An Edible Biohybrid Platform Accomplishes In Situ Fenton‐Mediated Enteral Nanoplastics Aging and Excretion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An edible biohybrid platform triggers nanoplastics (NPs) aging and agglomeration by in situ generating hydroxyl radicals within the intestine. The enlarged NPs are unable to penetrate the intestine and are subsequently excreted. Simultaneously, probiotic biofilms reinforce the intestinal barrier.

Effects of Co-substrate Type and Mixing Ratio on Methane Production and Synergistic effect of Mesophilic Co-digestion of Polylactic Acid (PLA) Waste [PDF]

open access: yes대한환경공학회지
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable plastic widely used as an alternative to conventional plastics due to its high biodegradability; however, when treated by anaerobic digestion, PLA waste exhibits limited degradation and energy recovery efficiency.

A Single‐Cell Transcriptomic Atlas of the Ovine Rumen Microbiome Characterizes Lineage‐Specific Metabolic Shifts Associated with Host Heat Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An optimized single‐cell transcriptomic framework profiles over 60 000 cells to map the ovine rumen microbiome, partitioning the ecosystem into seven cross‐species functional clusters. In heat‐resistant hosts, a lineage‐specific metabolic shift in Anaerovibrio lipolyticus toward a highly glycolytic phenotype contributes to a “nutritional sparing ...

A Review on Anaerobic Co-Digestion with a Focus on the Microbial Populations and the Effect of Multi-Stage Digester Configuration

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Recent studies have shown that anaerobic co-digestion (AnCoD) is superior to conventional anaerobic digestion (AD). The benefits of enhanced bioenergy production and solids reduction using co-substrates have attracted researchers to study the co ...

Nano‐Backpack Engineered Probiotics with Reactive Oxygen Species–Responsive Tungsten Release for Synergistic Therapy of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated probiotic system is engineered to execute a programmed therapeutic cascade against inflammatory bowel disease. Upon pathological signals, the system sequentially performs ROS scavenging, tungsten release, and selective pathogen suppression, thereby breaking the oxidative stress–dysbiosis cycle to remodel gut microbiota and reinforce ...

Effects of Polyethylene Terephthalate Microplastics on Anaerobic Mono-Digestion and Co-Digestion of Fecal Sludge from Septic Tank

open access: yesMolecules
Anaerobic digestion (AD) is one of the most significant processes for treating fecal sludge. However, a substantial amount of microplastics (MPs) have been identified in septic tanks, and it remains unclear whether they impact the resource treatment of ...

A practical electrodialysis model for accelerating system development

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Empirical optimization of electrodialysis (ED) is dependent on repetitive experiments with incremental adjustments, which is cost prohibitive at scale. While models can reduce the costs associated with optimization and scale‐up, existing ED models are limited in application to specific use cases and tend to be developed for the exploration of ...
