Ubc1 turnover contributes to the spindle assembly checkpoint in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2021
The spindle assembly checkpoint protects the integrity of the genome by ensuring that chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle before they are segregated during anaphase.

NIR is degraded by the anaphase-promoting complex proteasome pathway [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2014
Novel INHAT Repressor (NIR) is a histone acetylation inhibitor that can directly bind histone complexes and the tumor suppressors p53 and p63.

Regulation of the anaphase-promoting complex by phosphorylation

open access: green, 2019
Regulation of the eukaryotic cell cycle is accomplished in large part by well-timed and targeted destruction of proteins that inhibit or activate passage through cell cycle transitions. Ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis is well established as the primary mechanism through which this occurs, and the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), an E3 ubiquitin ligase,

An architectural map of the anaphase-promoting complex [PDF]

open access: yesGenes & Development, 2006
The anaphase-promoting complex or cyclosome (APC) is an unusually complicated ubiquitin ligase, composed of 13 core subunits and either of two loosely associated regulatory subunits, Cdc20 and Cdh1. We analyzed the architecture of the APC using a recently constructed budding yeast strain that is viable in the absence of normally essential APC subunits.

MAD2B is an inhibitor of the anaphase-promoting complex [PDF]

open access: yesGenes & Development, 2001
Anaphase-promoting complex (APC), a ubiquitin ligase, controls both sister chromatid separation and mitotic exit. The APC is activated in mitosis and G1 by CDC20 and CDH1, and inhibited by the checkpoint protein MAD2, a specific inhibitor of CDC20. We show here that a MAD2 homolog MAD2B also inhibits APC.

The RepID–CRL4 ubiquitin ligase complex regulates metaphase to anaphase transition via BUB3 degradation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
The spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) safeguards chromosome segregation by regulating the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), allowing chromosomes to correctly attach to mitotic spindles. Here the authors reveal a role for Cullin–RING ubiquitin

Three-Dimensional Structure of the Anaphase-Promoting Complex [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cell, 2001
The anaphase-promoting complex (APC) is a cell cycle-regulated ubiquitin-protein ligase, composed of at least 11 subunits, that controls progression through mitosis and G1. Using cryo-electron microscopy and angular reconstitution, we have obtained a three-dimensional model of the human APC at a resolution of 24 A.

Co-activator independent differences in how the metaphase and anaphase APC/C recognise the same substrate

open access: yesBiology Open, 2014
The Anaphase Promoting Complex or Cyclosome (APC/C) is critical to the control of mitosis. The APC/C is an ubiquitin ligase that targets specific mitotic regulators for proteolysis at distinct times in mitosis, but how this is achieved is not well ...

Phosphorylation of MCPH1 isoforms during mitosis followed by isoform‐specific degradation by APC/C‐CDH1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Microcephalin‐1 (MCPH1) exists as 2 isoforms that regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase‐1 activation and chromosome condensation during mitosis, with MCPH1 mutations causing primary microcephaly.
