Mycobacterium avium Subsp. paratuberculosis and Human Endogenous Retrovirus in Italian Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), is a recognised gastrointestinal disorder. Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is implicated in IBD pathogenesis. Persistent exposure and active infections by MAP may contribute to the unsilencing of human endogenous retroviruses (HERV ...

Editing a gibberellin receptor gene improves yield and nitrogen fixation in soybean

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Knockout of the soybean gibberellin receptor gene GmGID1‐2 reduced plant height; strengthened stems; increased the number of branches, nodes, pods, and seeds; and improved yield, seed oil content and nitrogen fixation. ABSTRACT Soybean is an important source of oil, protein, and feed. However, its yield is far below that of major cereal crops.

A fluorescence lifetime separation approach for FLIM live‐cell imaging

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) translates the duration of excited states of fluorophores into lifetime information as an additional source of contrast in images of biological samples. This offers the possibility to separate fluorophores particularly beneficial in case of similar excitation spectra.

PLK4 is a potential therapeutic target in nonmelanoma skin cancers: Evidence from molecular and in vivo studies

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation is the main etiologic driver of nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSCs), including basal cell (BCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCC), which are the most prevalent types of cancers in the US. In this study, we demonstrate that the serine/threonine kinase Polo‐like kinase 4 (PLK4) is overexpressed in NMSCs ...

Sex differences in the physiological response to acute anterior cruciate ligament overuse

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend With equivalent in vivo fatigue loading of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), females accumulate more tissue damage and mount a slower reparative response than males, when the applied loads between sexes are equivalent. By contrast, males accumulate less tissue damage and mount a robust reparative response that includes ...
