A GHz Silicon-Based Width Extensional Mode MEMS Resonator with Q over 10,000

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This work presents a silicon-based capacitively transduced width extensional mode (WEM) MEMS rectangular plate resonator with quality factor (Q) of over 10,000 at a frequency of greater than 1 GHz.

Risk Assessment Method for Anchoring Accident of High Voltage Submarine Cable

open access: yes南方能源建设, 2021
[Introduction] Cable damage and power failure caused by anchoring damage will cause serious economic loss and social impact. In order to reduce the risk of anchor damage accident of submarine cable, a risk assessment method of high-voltage submarine ...

A longitudinal framework to describe the relation between age-related hearing loss and social isolation [PDF]

open access: yes
Many older adults live with some form of hearing loss and have difficulty understanding speech in the presence of background sound. Experiences resulting from such difficulties include increased listening effort and fatigue.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Loss of the membrane anchor of the target receptor is a mechanism of bioinsecticide resistance [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2002
The mosquitocidal activity of Bacillus sphaericus is because of a binary toxin (Bin), which binds to Culex pipiens maltase 1 (Cpm1), an α-glucosidase present in the midgut of Culex pipiens larvae.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

RiSSNet: Contrastive Learning Network with a Relaxed Identity Sampling Strategy for Remote Sensing Image Semantic Segmentation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Contrastive learning techniques make it possible to pretrain a general model in a self-supervised paradigm using a large number of unlabeled remote sensing images.

Semi-analytical modeling of anchor loss in plate-mounted resonators [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonics, 2018
A semi-analytical technique for estimating the energy loss in a resonator mounted to an infinite plate substrate is proposed in this paper. In a plate, only Lamb waves have to be considered, leading to a simplified characterization of the energy carried away from a vibrating source on the plate surface.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
