Population dynamics of Enterogyrus cichlidarum (Monogenea: Ancyrocephalinae) from the stomach of Tilapia spp. in Egypt

International Journal for Parasitology, 1990
In a 1-year seasonal study of the numbers of the stomach-inhabiting monogenean Enterogyrus cichlidarum in Tilapia nilotica in the River Nile, Egypt, prevalence and intensity reached a height in spring and infection levels were surprisingly high in winter. T. zillii harboured fewer parasites but seasonal changes were similar.

DUPLACCESSORIUS ANDINUS N. GEN., N. SP. (DACTYLOGYRIDAE: ANCYROCEPHALINAE) FROM THE GILLS OF PERCICHTHYS TRUCHA (PERCIFORMES: PERCICHTHYIDAE) IN PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA

Journal of Parasitology, 2004
During a parasitological survey of Patagonian freshwater fishes, specimens of a new species of Monogenea were collected from the gills of Percichthys trucha (Perciformes: Percichthyidae). This species is described as the only member of a newly proposed genus of Ancyrocephalinae. Duplaccessorius n. gen.

The Host Specificity of Urocleidus adspectus Mueller, 1936 (Monogenea: Ancyrocephalinae)

The Journal of Parasitology, 1982
The oncomiracidium of Urocleidus adspectus Mueller, 1936 (Monogenea: Ancyrocephalinae) is described and compared with others. Its body is fusiform to pyriform in shape and measures approximately 30 by 75 μm. Sixty-one ciliated locomotory cells are arranged into four zones: an anterior zone with 27 cells; two ventrolateral zones, each with 10; and a ...

PHYLOGENY OF SPECIES OF SCIADICLEITHRUM (MONOGENOIDEA: ANCYROCEPHALINAE), AND THEIR HISTORICAL BIOGEOGRAPHY IN THE NEOTROPICS

Journal of Parasitology, 2005
The phylogenetic relationships and historical biogeography of species of Sciadicleithrum parasitizing Neotropical cichlid fishes were studied. Hypotheses were: Did the presence of Sciadicleithrum species in southeast Mexico (SM) and Central America (CA) result from early dispersal of cichlid species from South America (SA) to the north via the Antilles

Monogeneans (Dactylogyridae: Ancyrocephalinae) of Freshwater Fishes from the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua

Comparative Parasitology, 2003
Abstract The results of a systematic survey of species of monogeneans (Dactylogyridae) collected from the gills of pimelodid, poeciliid, cichlid, and characid fishes from the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua in 1999 are presented. The following species were recovered: Ameloblastella chavarriai and Aphanoblastella travassosi occurred on the gills of Rhamdia ...

CICHLIDOGYRUS SCLEROSUS (MONOGENEA: ANCYROCEPHALINAE) AND ITS HOST, THE NILE TILAPIA (OREOCHROMIS NILOTICUS), AS BIOINDICATORS OF CHEMICAL POLLUTION

Journal of Parasitology, 2007
Experimental results showed that the gill monogenean Cichlidogyrus sclerosus and its host, the Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus, exhibited significant numerical and physiological responses after exposure to sediments polluted with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls, and heavy metals in comparison with control fishes ...

New host and distribution records for five species ofEnterogyrusPaperna, 1963 (Dactylogyridae: Ancyrocephalinae) from cichlid hosts in South Africa

African Journal of Aquatic Science, 2022
Between March 2015 and September 2016, three species of Cichlidae (Coptodon rendalli, Oreochromis mossambicus and Tilapia sparrmanii) were screened  for the presence of stomach monogeneans. Four localities across three provinces of South Africa (Limpopo, Northern Cape and North West) were  sampled and a total of five Enterogyrus species were ...
