Despite the high oil and protein content of the seeds, the agronomic potential of Lupinus mutabilis Sweet, a South American lupin species, is limited because of its low seed yield and its uncertain maturity. Dry matter accumulation and partitioning, and seed yield, of 2 genotypes (early-maturing LM34 and late-maturing LM268) were studied in 2 seasons ...

Plant structure was shown to limit the seed yield of Lupinus mutabilis through low dry matter production. The genetic and environmental variations of architectural and phenological traits of indeterminate Andean lupin were evaluated. Twelve genotypes were sown at 6–8 dates at 5 locations in Europe in 1994 and 1995.

The bitter taste of lupin alkaloids can be sensorially detected in water within ppm-range. The strength of the taste diminishes as follows: sparteine, D-Lupanin-perchlorate, lupinine, isolupinine and hydroxylupanine. The swelling capacity of lupin seeds presents different characteristics according to the species. The swelling rapidity is in L.

Abstract The chemical composition of the seeds of the low-alkaloid variety “Inti” of the Andean lupin ( Lupinus mutabilis ) grown in the south of Chile was examined. The contents of (% of dry weight) total alkaloids, protein, lipids, and oligosaccharides were found to be 0.0075, 51.0, 16.0, and 14.7%, respectively.

Safety evaluation of water debittered andean lupins (Lupinus mutabilis): 12-week rat feeding study
Qualitas Plantarum Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, 1987In a 12-week feeding study, water debittered grains of Andean lupins (Lupinus mutabilis) were tested as unique protein source in growing male and female rats. Before the phsyiological study, the lupin flour was evaluated with regard to its possible content of anti-nutritive substances, such as alkaloids, cyanogenetic glucosides, trypsin inhibitor ...

2S albumins were isolated from seeds of Andean lupin (Lupinus mutabilis Sweet) by buffer extraction, ammonium sulphate precipitation and ultrafiltration followed ion-exchange and reversed-phase HPLC. The 2S albumin preparation (LM2S) contained eight albumins. The complete amino acid sequences of small and large subunits of three major albumins (LM2S-4,
