Tritylation of andrographolide at C19-OH resulted to products 8 and diene 9, which can be converted to its acetate 10 and oxidation product 11.

AbstractThe infrared spectrum of andrographolide shows the presence of a five‐membered unsaturated lactone‐ring and a terminal methylene group in the molecule. On catalytic hydrogenation more than four atoms of hydrogen are taken up. A new diacetyl‐anhydro‐andrographolide is described.
