Summary In allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), important clinical decisions depend upon assessment of chimerism, including immunosuppressant dosing and donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI), which in turn can have major impacts on disease control, graft‐versus‐host disease (GVHD), immunity and ultimately patient survival.

The 100‐day non‐relapse mortality after single‐unit cord blood transplantation significantly declined from 19.6% (2003–2007) to 9.5% (2018–2022), while the 3‐year overall survival improved from 38.8% to 54.4%. Haematopoietic recovery rates improved steadily, with neutrophil engraftment reaching 89.6% and platelet engraftment 78.0% in the most recent ...

Summary The efficacy of ciclosporin (CsA) to treat transfusion‐independent non‐severe aplastic anaemia (TI‐NSAA) has not yet been systematically evaluated. We conducted a prospective trial in patients with TI‐NSAA treated with CsA monotherapy. CsA (3.5 mg/kg/day) was administered to patients with TI‐NSAA aged ≥16.

Quality-adjusted survival analysis shows differences in outcome after immunosuppression or bone marrow transplantation in aplastic anemia [PDF]
Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) and immunosuppression (IS) have improved the prognosis of aplastic anemia; both treatments have specific advantages and drawbacks but similar survival rates.

Summary Identifying telomere biology disorders (TBDs) in patients with aplastic anaemia (AA) is essential for guiding appropriate care. Telomere length (TL) measurement by flow cytometry with fluorescence in situ hybridization supports diagnosis, but the real‐world performance of the basic test (lymphocytes and granulocytes) versus the detailed test ...
