The effects of anesthesia methods and anesthetics on postoperative delirium in the elderly patients: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2022
Study objectivePostoperative delirium (POD) is one of the serious postoperative complications in elderly patients, which is always related to long-term mortality. Anesthesia is often considered a risk factor for POD.

The temperature dependence of lipid membrane permeability, its quantized nature, and the influence of anesthetics [PDF]

open access: yesBiophys. J. 96 (2009), 4581-4591, 2008
We investigate the permeability of lipid membranes for fluorescence dyes and ions. We find that permeability reaches a maximum close to the chain melting transition of the membranes. Close to transitions, fluctuations in area and compressibility are high, leading to an increased likelihood of spontaneous lipid pore formation.

THE AMOUNT OF THE ANESTHETIC. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1900
The anesthetic is undoubtedly a prominent etiologic factor in the disturbances which accompany and follow surgcal operations. To it may be attributed, directly or indirectly, much of the rapid pulse and respiration, exhaustion, shock, nausea, vomiting, asphyxia, syncope, bronchitis, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, and nephritis seen in connection with ...

NOTES ON ANESTHETICS. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1901
A man can not do two things at once so skilfully as he can do either one of them by itself. A surgeon can not do his most skilful operating while devoting half his attention to the anesthetic. A surgeon is frequently more concerned about the result of the anesthetizer's work than he is about the results of his own work.

Comparison of the Anesthetic Techniques [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2015
A great number of anesthetic techniques (general, regional, spinal, epidural, caudal, hypotensive, total intravenous, regional intravenous, inhalation, and nerve blocks) can be used for multiple surgical procedures [1–3]. The effect of anesthetic technique on perioperative outcomes is controversial.

Ketamine-Medetomidine General Anesthesia Occurs With Alternation of Cortical Electrophysiological Activity Between High and Low Complex States [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Anesthetic agents are known to induce a range of alterations in cortical electrophysiological activity, such as the rise of signature patterns, changes in statistical properties, and altered dynamic behavior of neural records. Plenty of methods can be used to monitor these changes, among them complexity metrics demonstrated to have the power to ...

Linalool induces relaxation of the mantle of golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata)

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2021
The objective of this study was to evaluate the possible relaxing effect of essential oils (EOs) (Aloysia triphylla and Lippia alba) and phytochemicals (citral and linalool) in the gastropod Pomacea canaliculata.

Safety of local anesthetics

open access: yesAnais Brasileiros de Dermatologia, 2020
Local anesthetics are essential medications for the conduction of dermatological procedures. They stop the depolarization of nerve fibers and are divided into two main categories, the amide and ester types. Systemic toxicity with reflex on the central nervous and cardiovascular systems is their most feared adverse reactions, and the anaphylactic ...
