Optimal management of sarcopenia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sarcopenia is the progressive generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function which occurs as a consequence of aging. With a growing older population, there has been great interest in developing approaches to counteract the effects of ...

A pilot clinical trial of recombinant human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 in acute respiratory distress syndrome

open access: yesCritical Care, 2017
BackgroundRenin-angiotensin system (RAS) signaling and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID‐19): Do Angiotensin‐Converting Enzyme Inhibitors/Angiotensin Receptor Blockers Have a Biphasic Effect?

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association : Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
report from 138 hospitalized COVID- 19 patients, 31% had hypertension, 10% had diabetes mellitus, and 14.5% had cardiovascular disease, being the 3 most common comorbidities. 11 In the latter study, 36 of the 138 patients needed intensive care unit stays,

Multivalent Protein Nanorings for Broad and Potent SARS‐CoV‐2 Neutralization

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A protein‐only, modular multivalent nanoscaffold displaying 20 anchor points, decorated with two different binders (10 of each), targeting the SARS‐CoV‐2 receptor‐binding domain is presented. The construct self‐assembles into stable, biocompatible, homogeneous nanoparticles, exhibit synergistic binding with fM IC50 values. It also detects spike at 9 ng

Automated Label‐Free Assay for Viral Detection and Inhibitor Screening via Biomembrane‐Functionalized Microelectrode Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bioelectronic sensor integrating 2D cell membranes with organic microelectrode arrays enables detection of SARS‐CoV‐2 fusion pathways. Natively‐expressed viral receptors promote monitoring of viral entry and screening of antibody‐based inhibitors.

Multidimensional Evolution of Surface Endothelialization Design Strategies: A Materials Biology Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review critically evaluates three pivotal endothelial cell regulatory strategies (direct regulation, protein‐mediated interactions, and biological factor modulation), exploring their macro‐to‐micro effects in pathological environments, and examines how microscopic surface engineering influences broader in vivo pathological interactions ...

Effect of Aerobic Training on Concentration of Plasma Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) in Postmenopausal Women

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2015
Background: Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) is secreted from vascular endothelium. This enzyme is one of the main determinants of blood pressure regulation.

Individualized Angiotensin‐Converting Enzyme (ACE)‐Inhibitor Therapy in Stable Coronary Artery Disease Based on Clinical and Pharmacogenetic Determinants: The PERindopril GENEtic (PERGENE) Risk Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) constitute a heterogeneous group in which the treatment benefits by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitor therapy vary between individuals.

Loss of Hepatic Angiotensinogen Attenuates Diastolic Dysfunction in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Increased hepatic angiotensinogen (AGT) abundance leads to cardiac diastolic dysfunction via the AngII‐independent pathway. Liver‐derived AGT is internalized by LRP2 in cardiac endothelial cells, subsequently contributing to myocardial diastolic dysfunction by suppressing microvascular angiogenesis via inhibiting the GATA2/Pim3 pathway.
