Whey-derived peptides interactions with ACE by molecular docking as a potential predictive tool of natural ACE inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Several milk/whey derived peptides possess high in vitro angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity. However, in some cases, poor correlation between the in vitro ACE inhibitory activity and the in vivo antihypertensive activity has been ...

Silylation of Aryl and Alkyl Chlorides by a Seven‐Membered Dialkoxysilyl Group Si(pan)Me via an In Situ Generated Silylpotassium

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
This study reveals a facile silylation protocol that enables the delivery of a stable and activatable dioxasilepanyl group, Si(pan)Me, to aryl and alkyl chlorides. Of note is the X‐ray structure of 18‐C‐6·K–Si(pan)Me, which elucidates a pivotal silylpotassium intermediate.

Prescribing Patterns and Cost of Antihypertensive Drugs in Private Hospitals in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Antihypertensive agents are used to prevent morbidity and mortality related to hypertension. Prescribing patterns and the cost of some antihypertensive were studied for 600 patients attending medical clinics in four private hospitals in Dar es Salaam ...

Single-substrate Enzyme Kinetics: The Quasi-steady-state Approximation and Beyond [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Math. Chem. 51 (2013) 1467, 2012
We analyze the standard model of enzyme-catalyzed reactions at various substrate-enzyme ratios to identify the regions of validity of the quasi-steady-state approximation. Certain prevalent conditions are checked and compared against the actual findings. Efficacies of a few other measures are highlighted. Some very recent observations are rationalized,

Absence of Functional Autoantibodies Targeting Angiotensin II Receptor Type 1 and Endothelin‐1 Type A Receptor in Circulation and Purified IgG From Patients With Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare but severe autoimmune disease characterized by immune dysregulation, fibrosis, and vasculopathy. Although previous studies have highlighted the presence of functional autoantibodies targeting the angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1) and endothelin‐1 type A receptor (ETAR), leading to autoantibody‐mediated ...

Effective inter-symbol interference mitigation with a limited amount of enzymes in molecular communications [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In molecular communication via diffusion (MCvD), the inter-symbol interference (ISI) is a well known severe problem that deteriorates both data rates and link reliability. ISI mainly occurs due to the slow and highly random propagation of the messenger molecules, which causes the emitted molecules from the previous symbols to interfere with molecules ...

Induction of angiotensin converting enzyme after miR-143/145 deletion is critical for impaired smooth muscle contractility. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
MicroRNAs have emerged as regulators of smooth muscle cell phenotype with a role in smooth muscle-related disease. Studies have shown that miR-143 and miR-145 are the most highly expressed microRNAs in smooth muscle cells, controlling differentiation and

An Immunosenescent CD8+ T Cell Subset in Patients with Axial Spondyloarthritis and Psoriatic Arthritis Links Spontaneous Motility to Telomere Shortening and Dysfunction

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective A pathogenetic role of CD8+ T lymphocytes in radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r‐axSpA) and other spondyloarthritis (SpA) is sustained by genome‐wide association studies and by the expansion of public T cell clonotypes in the target tissues.

Structures, Functions, and Mechanisms of Filament Forming Enzymes: A Renaissance of Enzyme Filamentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Filament formation by non-cytoskeletal enzymes has been known for decades, yet only relatively recently has its wide-spread role in enzyme regulation and biology come to be appreciated. This comprehensive review summarizes what is known for each enzyme confirmed to form filamentous structures in vitro, and for the many that are known only to form large

Angiotensin-(1-7) and angiotensin-(1-9): function in cardiac and vascular remodeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The renin angiotensin system (RAS) is integral to cardiovascular physiology, however, dysregulation of this system largely contributes to the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
