Badminton shuttlecock stability: Modelling and simulating the angular response of the turnover [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part P: Journal of Sports Engineering and Technology, 2015
Turnover of a badminton shuttlecock is the flipping motion of the shuttlecock after its initial contact with the racket. During the process, the shuttlecock experiences a large change in heading. In this article, the turnover stability of the shuttlecock is investigated through experiment and simulation.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Influence of uncemented humeral stem proximal geometry on stress distributions and torsional stability following total shoulder arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, 2019
Background While surgeons tend to implant larger stems to improve torsional stability, numerous studies demonstrated that increasing humeral stem diameter could exacerbate stress-shielding and lead to bone resorption.

Stabilizing spherical energy shells with angular momentum in gravitational backgrounds

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics D, 2022
Spherical energy shells in General Relativity tend to collapse due to gravitational effects and/or due to tension effects. Shell stabilization may be achieved by modifying the gravitational properties of the background spacetime. Thus, gravastars consist of stiff matter shells with an interior deSitter space and an exterior Schwarzshild spacetime ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Dynamics Analysis of a Nonlinear Satellite Attitude Control System Using an Exact Linear Model

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
This study aims to analyze the nonlinear dynamics of a satellite attitude control system equipped with reaction wheels and a PD controller. Based on the angular momentum conservation theorem for a closed mechanical system, the nonlinear equations of the ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Baseline Regional Cholinergic Denervation Predicts Cognitive Trajectories in Moderate Parkinson Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cognitive decline is a disabling and variable feature of Parkinson disease (PD). While cholinergic system degeneration is linked to cognitive impairments in PD, most prior research reported cross‐sectional associations. We aimed to fill this gap by investigating whether baseline regional cerebral vesicular acetylcholine transporter ...

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...
