Production of Highly Uniform Midbrain Organoids from Human Pluripotent Stem Cells

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2023
Brain organoids have been considered as an advanced platform for in vitro disease modeling and drug screening, but numerous roadblocks exist, such as lack of large-scale production technology and lengthy protocols with multiple manipulation steps ...

Models for character animation

open access: yesSoftware Focus, 2001
AbstractGORDON COLLINS and ADRIAN HILTON present a reviewof methods for the constructionand deformation of charactermodels. They consider both stateof the art research and common practice. In particular they review applications, data capture methods, manual model construction, polygonal, parametricand implicit surface representations, basic geometric ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Object-translocation induces event coding in the rat hippocampus

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Episodic memory is the ability to recall personally experienced events that are situated within specific spatial contexts. Within a navigation environment, salient objects can function as landmarks, and interactions with them can be encoded as distinct ...

Formononetin promotes porcine oocytes maturation and improves embryonic development by reducing oxidative stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
Increasing evidence has demonstrated that oxidative stress impairs oocyte maturation and embryonic development. Conventionally, antioxidants have been applied in vitro systems to improve oocyte maturation and blastocyst rates.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Isoorientin Promotes Early Porcine Embryonic Development by Alleviating Oxidative Stress and Improving Lipid Metabolism

open access: yesAnimals
Isoorientin (ISO) is a natural lignan glycoside flavonoid found in various plants, including Charcot and Stonecrop. ISO exhibits diverse physiological and pharmacological effects, such as antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antiviral ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Animal population social structure models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We develop a new class of mathematical ranking models for the purpose of quantifying the social structure in animal populations. Our approach is based on taking into account both the interaction between single individuals as well as their role within ...
