On the theory of translationally invariant magnetohydrodynamic equilibria with anisotropic pressure and magnetic shear

open access: yes, 2015
Funding: STFC Doctoral Training Grant ST/K502327/1 (Jonathan Hodgson) and STFC Consolidated Grant ST/K000950/1 (Thomas Neukirch)We present an improved formalism for translationally invariant magnetohydrodynamic equilibria with anisotropic pressure and ...

Recent advances in nacre-inspired anisotropic thermally conductive polymeric nanocomposites

open access: yes, 2023
The rapid development of miniaturized, highly integrated, and multifunctional modern electronic devices has generated a growing demand for anisotropic heat dissipation in polymer nanocomposites for thermal management applications.

Anisotropic creep model for soft soils

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper a new anisotropic model for time-dependent behaviour of soft soils is presented. The formulation is based on a previously developed isotropic creep model, assuming rotated Modified Cam Clay ellipses as contours of volumetric creep strain ...

Anisotropic enhanced backscattering induced by anisotropic diffusion

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2004
The enhanced backscattering cone displaying a strong anisotropy from a material with anisotropic diffusion is reported. The constructive interference of the wave is preserved in the helicity preserving polarization channel and completely lost in the nonpreserving one. The internal reflectivity at the interface modifies the width of the backscatter cone.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Condensation and partial pressure change as a major cause of airflow: Experimental evidence

open access: yesDyna, 2017
The dominant model of atmospheric circulation is based on the notion that hot air rises, creating horizontal winds. A second major driver has been proposed [1] in the biotic pump theory (BPT), by which intense condensation is the prime cause of surface ...

Diffusion Spectrum Imaging Maps Early Axonal Loss and a Unique Progressive Signal in Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To delineate specific in vivo white matter pathology in neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) using diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and define its clinical relevance. Methods DSI was performed on 42 NIID patients and 38 matched controls.

Study on Hydraulic Fracture Propagation of Strong Heterogeneous Shale Based on Stress‐Seepage Damage Coupling Model

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering
The developed laminar structure of shale makes it possess obvious anisotropic characteristics, and these anisotropic characteristics are one of the important factors leading to the strong and weak heterogeneous properties of shale. Additionally, there is

Isotope Effect in the Translation-Invariant Bipolaron Theory of High-Temperature Superconductivity

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2020
It is shown that the translation-invariant bipolaron theory of superconductivity can explain the dependence of the isotope coefficient in high-temperature superconductors on the critical temperature of a superconducting transition: in the case of strong ...
