A general physiological interest in anoxia has resulted in such a vast literature that, in this short communication, only data of importance to aviation are included, from observations on human subjects. In the case of flying personnel, acute anoxia should be regarded as a dynamic state, due to a fall in the partial pressure of alveolar oxygen to a ...

The apparent lack of agreement among various authors (Belli and Roach, 1968; Baker and Town, 1966; Michael, Scott and Revesz, 1966) on the rate of de-oxygenation of a culture medium suddenly exposed to an oxygen-free environment, is probably attributable to differences in the dimensions of the various media studied.

In a study designed to measure the effect of delayed oxygenation of newborn infants' blood on intelligence in later life, capillary blood oxygen content or saturation was measured at various intervals in the first 3 hours after birth, and in the same individual subjects intelligence was later assessed by Stanford-Binet test.
