Effectiveness of composts and Trichoderma strains for control of Fusarium wilt of tomato

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2015
Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (FOL) is a major limiting disease in tomato production in Morocco. Commercial and locally produced Moroccan composts and peat were found to reduce Fusarium wilt in tomato plants.

Altered brainstem responses to modafinil in schizophrenia: implications for adjunctive treatment of cognition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Candidate pro-cognitive drugs for schizophrenia targeting several neurochemical systems have consistently failed to demonstrate robust efficacy. It remains untested whether concurrent antipsychotic medications exert pharmacodynamic interactions that ...

Drug Antagonism and Single Agent Dominance Result from Differences in Death Kinetics

open access: yesNature Chemical Biology, 2020
Cancer treatment generally involves drugs used in combinations. Most previous work has focused on identifying and understanding synergistic drug–drug interactions; however, understanding antagonistic interactions remains an important and understudied ...

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Dual therapy with corticosteroid ablates the beneficial effect of DP2 antagonism in chronic experimental asthma

open access: yesNature Communications
Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) signals via the DP1 and DP2 receptors. In Phase II trials, DP2 antagonism decreased airway inflammation and airway smooth muscle (ASM) area in moderate-to-severe asthma patients.

Remarks on Antagonism [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Epidemiology, 2011
Different forms of antagonism are classified in terms of response types and are related to the sufficient-cause framework. These forms of antagonism include "synergy under recoding of an exposure," "synergism under recoding of the outcome," and so-called "competing response types," with synergism itself conceived of as causal co-action within the ...

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

How pollinator visits are affected by flower damage and ants presence in Ipomoea carnea subs. fistulosa (Martius and Choise) (Convolvulaceae)?

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2019
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of florivory and of the patrolling ants associated to EFNs-extrafloral nectaries, on the frequency of floral visitors, using the specie Ipomoea carnea subs. fistulosa (Martius and Choise) in Caatinga area.
