Status epilepticus: Updates on mechanisms and treatments

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Status epilepticus (SE) consists of prolonged, self‐sustaining seizures and is a common neurological emergency that causes respiratory compromise and neuronal injury. Without prompt treatment, the seizures can become resistant to benzodiazepines, leading to the progressive evolution of established, refractory, and super‐refractory SE.

hiPSC‐Derived Astrocytes From Individuals With Schizophrenia Induce a Dystrophic Phenotype in Microglial‐Like Cells

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
SCZ astrocytes display an increased pro‐inflammatory profile upon TNF‐α stimulation. Reactive SCZ astrocytes induce microglial‐like cells to assume a dystrophic phenotype. Reactive SCZ astrocytes limit iMGs' synaptoneurosome uptake and migration. ABSTRACT Neuroinflammation, particularly astrocyte reactivity, is increasingly linked to schizophrenia (SCZ)

Anterior Cingulate Cortex: Contributions to Social Cognition

open access: yes, 2012
It has been suggested that the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) plays an important role in decision-making. Activity in this area reflects processing related to two principles of Reinforcement Learning Theory (RLT): (i) signalling the predicted value of actions at the time they are instructed and (ii) signalling prediction errors at the time of the ...

The interaction between pain and mental disorders: An interdisciplinary analysis through bibliometrics

open access: yesIbrain, EarlyView.
This study elucidates the complex relationship between pain and mental disorders via bibliometric analysis. The left section illustrates neural pathways of pain, while the upper right highlights the link between pain and mental states like anxiety, stress, and sleep disorders, showing their interaction in exacerbating pain perception and persistence ...
