Pre-anthesis high-temperature acclimation alleviates damage to the flag leaf caused by post-anthesis heat stress in wheat

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2011
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of pre-anthesis high-temperature acclimation on leaf physiology of winter wheat in response to post-anthesis heat stress. The results showed that both pre- and post-anthesis heat stresses significantly depressed flag leaf photosynthesis and enhanced cell membrane peroxidation, as exemplified by ...

Flower structure and anthesis in the genusAlysicarpus

Proceedings / Indian Academy of Sciences, 1957
There are many species of forage value in the genusAlysicarpus. The optimum period for the flowers to bloom is between 9 and 11a.m., the optimum temperature and humidity required being 76·2 to 80·5° F. and 74 to 57 per cent., respectively. Flowering starts in the middle of August and continues for about two months. InA. longifolius, A.

TEMPERATURE AND ANTHESIS

American Journal of Botany, 1925
That there are waves of blossoming, or anthesis, in any particular locality and that such waves are more pronounced or less apparent according to the greater or the less amplitude of temperature variation, is a matter of both common experience and scientific knowledge.

Anthesis, pollination and fruitset in Pinot Noir

2015
Aspects of pollination and resulting fruitset in Vitis vinifera cv. Pinot Noir were investigated in a cool climate wine area of Southern Tasmania (Australia). Changes in the appearance of the stigmatic surface and pollen grains were recorded using environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM).

The Lodicules of Wheat: Pre- and Post-Anthesis

Australian Journal of Botany, 1975
Development of the lodicules in wheat is described in pre- and post-anthesis flowers. Each lodicule consists of a vascular fleshy body and an avascular membranous wing. At the onset of anthesis, the vascular region swells extensively and subsequently contracts after which the tissues autolyse rap- idly. The membranous wing remains intact.
