Gene expression during anthesis and senescence in Iris flowers

Plant Molecular Biology, 2003
We investigated changes in gene expression in Iris hollandica flowers by microarray technology. Flag tepals were sampled daily, from three days prior to flower opening to the onset of visible senescence symptoms. Gene expression profiles were compared with biochemical data including lipid and protein degradation and DNA coiling, and with morphological ...

The tobacco ovary at anthesis: An ultrastructural study

Micron (1969), 1979
Organelle development in the tobacco (Nicotina tabacum L. c.v. “Little Turkish”) ovary, at the time of anthesis, is incompletely differentiated. Active ovarian metabolism is evidenced by the presence of prominent ribosomes and rough endoplasmic reticula, plasmodesmata, swollen mitochondria, microbodies, and chloroplasts with sinlge membrane-bound ...

Wheat Grain Growth: Anthesis to Maturity

Australian Journal of Plant Physiology, 1979
A model of the wheat plant is described which consists of two components, the grain and storage material. Photosynthesis supplies further substrate to the store, from which material is used for grain growth at a rate that depends on the substrate level.

Post-Anthesis Economy of Carbon in a Cultivar of Cowpea

Journal of Experimental Botany, 1983
Budgets for transfer of carbon from individual leaves and other source organs to fruits and nodulated roots were constructed for stages of the post-flowering development of symbiotically-dependent cowpea ( Vigna unguiculata L. Walp. cv. Vita 3-Rhizobium strain CB756).

Organogenesis, Aestivation, and Anthesis in the Flower of Lilium tigrinum

Botanical Gazette, 1970
In Lilium tigrinum Ker the five floral whorls arise acropetally. Within each whorl members arise consecutively. The spiral direction in which floral organs arise is usually reversed in alternate whorls. Phylogenetic implications of this pattern are considered.

Water Relations during Flower Induction and Anthesis

Botanical Gazette, 1980
Transpiration, leaf conductance to water vapor, leaf water potential, and photosynthesis were examined during flower induction and at anthesis in cocklebur and soybean growing under carefully controlled temperature and photoperiod conditions. In both species, transpiration rate based on water loss from whole plants, water vapor conductance, and leaf ...

ANTHESIS AND POLLINATION IN BENGAL GRAM (CICER ARIETINUM)

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1935
A study of the time of flower opening and anther dehiscence is a necessary pre-requisite in any scheme of plant breeding where artificial hybridisation is contemplated. As the mechanism controlling these phases of floral development are influenced by latitude and season, it is essential that separate data are collected on this aspect at each place of ...

Genetic Analysis of Heat Tolerance at Anthesis in Rice

Crop Science, 2010
ABSTRACTGenetic analysis of heat tolerance will help breeders produce rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties adapted to future climates. An F6 population of 181 recombinant inbred lines of Bala (tolerant) × Azucena (susceptible) was screened for heat tolerance at anthesis by measuring spikelet fertility at 30°C (control) and 38°C (high temperature) in ...

Prediction of Time to Anthesis of a Selection of Sunflower Genotypes

Agronomy Journal, 1990
AbstractSynchronization of anthesis of male and female sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) inbreds to be crossed is important for successful hybrid seed production. The use of weather‐related models, which predict anthesis dates in scheduling planting times could assist in this synchronization.
