Ethyl anthracene-9-carboxylate [PDF]
In the title compound, C(17)H(14)O(2), the COO group and the anthracene fragment form a dihedral angle of 76.00 (19)°. The torsion angle around the O-Csp(3) bond of the ester group is 108.52 (18)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H⋯O inter-actions and edge-to-face arene inter-actions with C-H⋯(ring centroid) distances in the range 2.75-2.84 Å.

Novel Nematic all-trans-Perhydroanthracenes, -naphthacenes, and -benz[a]anthracenes
Hydroxy derivatives of the title compounds were prepared, two of them via regioselective formation of enamines. Some nematic acyl derivatives of the alcohols are described and their phase transition data recorded.

Exciton and vibronic effects in the spectroscopy of bianthracene in supersonic beams [PDF]
Excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra of 9,9’‐bianthracene in a supersonic expansion are reported. The spectra are anthracene‐like, indicating that the rings are weakly coupled. Exciton effects are considered in the interpretation of the spectra.
