Five-year real-world outcomes of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monotherapy versus combination therapy for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy in a Chinese population: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2019
Background To evaluate 5-year outcomes of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) monotherapy and combination therapy of anti-VEGF agents and photodynamic therapy (PDT) for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in a real-world Chinese population.

Bioprinted Stiffness‑Tunable Pancreatic Microniches to Decode Early Tumor Initiation Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Stiffness‐tunable GelMA microniches generated by microvalve bioprinting preserve wild‐type acinar identity while revealing a nonlinear, Kras‐dependent response to matrix mechanics. Intermediate stiffness promotes acinar‐to‐ductal metaplasia and proliferation, defining a permissive mechanical window.

Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion, Macular Ischemia, and Intravitreal Anti-VEGF Therapy

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2017
Purpose: To report a case with ischemic macular edema (ME) due to an acute branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) which was treated with repeated intravitreal anti-VEGF injections. Methods: Retrospective case presentation.

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.

A Retinal Matrix Stiffening Model Reveals FAK‐Dependent Mechanotransduction in Pericytes Underlies Vascular Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we show that retinal matrix stiffness is increased in diabetic mice. Using engineered human vascular models with controlled matrix stiffness, we demonstrate that stiffening activates focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signaling in pericytes, suppresses Notch signaling, and disrupts vascular morphology.

A Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma Inhibiting the Response to Intravitreal Antivascular Endothelial Growth Factor Therapy in Wet Age-Related Macular Disease

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2012
Purpose: Wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an ocular disorder that can be successfully treated with intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy. We report a case of incomplete response to intravitreal therapy associated

Anti-VEGF drugs: evidence for effectiveness

open access: yes, 2014
Anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (anti-VEGF) are targeted biological drugs (e.g. monoclonal antibodies) that prevent the growth of new vessels by inhibiting VEGF.

Repeated Dexamethasone Intravitreal Implant for the Treatment of Diabetic Macular Oedema Unresponsive to Anti-VEGF Therapy: Outcome and Predictive SD-OCT Features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: To investigate dexamethasone intravitreal implant 0.7 mg (DEX implant) for the treatment of diabetic macular oedema (DME) refractory to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy and evaluate predictive factors.
