Olaparib synergy screen reveals Exemestane induces replication stress in triple‐negative breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Screening 166 FDA‐approved anticancer drugs identifies the aromatase inhibitor Exemestane as a synergistic partner of PARP inhibitor Olaparib in BRCA‐proficient triple‐negative breast cancer. Exemestane induces ROS‐mediated replication stress, enhancing DNA damage and apoptosis alongside Olaparib.

Hyperthermia Prevents In Vitro and In Vivo Biofilm Formation on Endotracheal Tubes

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
There is currently an urgent need to find new strategies to tackle antimicrobial resistance and biofilm-related infections. This study has two aims. First, we evaluated the in vitro efficacy of hyperthermia in preventing biofilm formation on the surfaces

Prevalence and Therapies of Antibiotic-Resistance in Staphylococcus aureus

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2020
Infectious diseases are the second most important cause of human death worldwide; Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a very common human pathogenic microorganism that can trigger a variety of infectious diseases, such as skin and soft tissue infections,

Mechanisms of Antibiotic Resistance [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2016
ABSTRACT Emergence of resistance among the most important bacterial pathogens is recognized as a major public health threat affecting humans worldwide. Multidrug-resistant organisms have not only emerged in the hospital environment but are now often identified in community settings, suggesting that reservoirs of antibiotic-resistant bacteria ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Copy number flexibility facilitates heteroresistance to increasing antibiotic pressure and threatens the beta-lactam pipeline

open access: yesNature Communications
Our understanding of the rapid adaptation of bacteria to resist novel drugs is growing beyond known mechanisms such as mobile genetic elements and mutation selection.

Comparative in vitro activity of piperacillin-tazobactam and temocillin against third-generation cephalosporin-resistant, carbapenem-susceptible Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesGMS Infectious Diseases, 2021
Carbapenems are considered the drugs of choice for first-line treatment of severe infections caused by carbapenem-susceptible, extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL)-producing Enterobacterales, while piperacillin-tazobactam has been recommended as an ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

One-year mortality and years of potential life lost following bloodstream infection among adults: A nation-wide population based study

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Europe, 2022
Summary: Background: Limited data exist on long-term consequences of bloodstream infections (BSIs). We aimed to examine incidence, 1-year mortality, and years of potential life lost (YPLL) following BSI.

Draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas moraviensis R28-S [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We report the draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas moraviensis R28-S, isolated from the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Moscow, ID. The strain carries a native mercury resistance plasmid, poorly maintains introduced IncP-1 antibiotic resistance ...
