Itaconate induces tolerance of Staphylococcus aureus to aminoglycoside antibiotics

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
IntroductionStaphylococcus aureus is one of the chief pathogens that cause chronic and recurrent infections. Failure of the antibiotics to curb the infections contributes to relapse and is an important reason for the high mortality rate.

A Biomarker‐Driven Ovary–Endometrium Organ‐on‐a‐Chip Mimicking 3D Multicellular Complexity and Menstrual Cyclicity for Predicting Reproductive Toxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a dual‐organ, biomarker‐integrated ovaryendometrium organ‐on‐a‐chip that recapitulates 3D tissue complexity, menstrual cycle dynamics, and hormonal crosstalk. This platform enables real‐time, cell‐typespecific fluorescent readouts of reproductive toxicity using ANGPTL4 and SERPINB2 as early‐response reporters.

Pathogenic Role of FGFR3 Autoantibodies in Small Fiber Neuropathy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Autoantibodies against fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) are identified as pathogenic drivers of pain in small fiber neuropathy. By binding to sensory neurons in dorsal root ganglia, FGFR3 autoantibodies activate MAPK signaling and induce hyperexcitability and mechanical hypersensitivity, establishing FGFR3 autoantibodies as a therapeutic ...

Developing methods for testing the resistance of white cabbage against Thrips tabaci [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Since the damage of the onion thrips (Thrips tabaci Lindemann) first occurred on white cabbage in Hungary several observations have been carried out, both in Hungary and abroad, to assess varietal resistance.

Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone

Got Controversy - Milk Does [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This article analyzes ongoing controversy over how to best label rBST-free milk. Recombinant bovine somatotropin is a genetically engineered drug administered by some farmers to their dairy herds to increase milk production. FDA first approved its use in

Cleavage‐Resistant CYLD Protects Against Autoimmune Hepatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Proteolytic cleavage of the deubiquitinase CYLD emerges as a critical driver of autoimmune hepatitis. TNFα‐induced CYLD loss in macrophages amplifies S100A9‐triggered MAPK activation, leading to excessive chemokine production and hepatic inflammation. Pharmacological inhibition of MEK signaling effectively attenuates experimental disease, highlighting ...

Transcriptomic profiling of ceftriaxone-tolerant phenotypes of Neisseria gonorrhoeae reveals downregulation of ribosomal genes — a pilot study

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Antibiotic tolerance is associated with failure of antibiotic treatment and accelerates the development of antimicrobial resistance. The molecular mechanisms underlying antimicrobial tolerance remain poorly understood.
