An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Characterization of immunoglobulin G antibodies to Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite surface antigen MB2 in malaria exposed individuals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background MB2 protein is a sporozoite surface antigen on the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. MB2 was identified by screening a P. falciparum sporozoite cDNA expression library using immune sera from a protected donor immunized via the ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Isotype specific ELISAs to detect antibodies against swine vesicular disease virus and their use in epidemiology

open access: yes, 2002
Isotype specific ELISAs to detect antibodies against swine vesicular disease, which may help to estimate the moment of infection, were developed and validated on sera from pigs experimentally infected with four different isolates of swine vesicular ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Development of antibodies for life-detection experiment in extreme environments; implications for astrobiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Life Marker Chip (LMC) instrument is an antibody assay-based system which will attempt to detect molecular signatures of Life in the Martian subsurface as part of the payload on board the European Space Agency (ESA) ExoMars mission rover, currently

Antibodies for immunolabeling by light and electron microscopy : not for the faint hearted [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Reliable antibodies represent crucial tools in the arsenal of the cell biologist and using them to localize antigens for immunocytochemistry is one of their most important applications.

Antibodies in milk [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 1982
Introduction Both in clinical practice and in the scientific literature human milk is often treated as though its only important properties were the volume in which it is produced and its nutritional composition in terms of fat, carbohydrate and protein content.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

An Immunoperoxidase Monolayer Assay (IPMA) for the detection of lumpy skin disease antibodies.

open access: yes, 2020
During this study a new Immunoperoxidase Monolayer Assay (IPMA) was developed for the detection of antibodies against lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) in an easy and low tech setting.
