Influence of Facility Size on Perioperative Outcomes in Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for 14 152 Patients With Esophageal Cancer Based on the Japanese National Clinical Database: A Multicenter Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This multicenter study investigated 14 152 minimally invasive esophagectomies (MIEs) using data from the Japanese National Clinical Database and showed a significantly lower operative mortality rate in high‐volume centers than in low‐volume centers. However, no differences in morbidity rates were found between facility sizes.

Predicting progression of aortic stenosis by measuring serum calcification propensity

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1297-1302, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background The aim of this prospective, double‐blinded study in patients with aortic sclerosis was to determine whether a new calcification propensity measure in the serum could predict disease progression. Methods We included 129 consecutive patients with aortic sclerosis as assessed during a routine clinical echocardiographic exam. Clinical,

Asymptomatic “breakthrough” thrombosis and anticoagulant “failure”: Keep calm and carry on

open access: yesResearch and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2019
Despite therapeutic anticoagulation, patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) not uncommonly present with findings of progressive thrombosis, sometimes within the first several weeks of treatment.

Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Hemophilia or von Willebrand Disease

open access: yesTH Open, 2019
Background Management of atrial fibrillation (AF) is complex in patients with bleeding disorders. Catheter ablation such as pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) has been suggested in cases with bleeding disorders. However, data on safety are missing.

Second-Order Inference for the Mean of a Variable Missing at Random [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We present a second-order estimator of the mean of a variable subject to missingness, under the missing at random assumption. The estimator improves upon existing methods by using an approximate second-order expansion of the parameter functional, in addition to the first-order expansion employed by standard doubly robust methods. This results in weaker

Heparin and anticoagulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2016
Heparin, a sulfated polysaccharide, has been used as a clinical anticoagulant for over 90 years. Newer anticoagulants, introduced for certain specialized applications, have not significantly displaced heparin and newer heparin-based anticoagulants in most medical procedures.

Mesenteric thrombosis: An unusual complication of severe acute pancreatitis—Report of two cases

open access: yesAdvances in Digestive Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract The incidence of acute pancreatitis is 34 per 100 000 people in the general population and is on the rise. Approximately 15% to 20% of all patients experience severe pancreatitis, with a mortality rate nearing 20%. This condition is often linked to vascular complications, although mesenteric thrombosis is a rare presentation.

Pharmacokinetics and Bioequivalence of Fudosteine in Healthy Chinese Volunteers Under Fasting and Fed Conditions: A 4‐Way Replicate Crossover Study

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology in Drug Development, Volume 12, Issue 1, Page 30-37, January 2023., 2023
Abstract The bioequivalence of a generic fudosteine tablet vs a brand‐named fudosteine tablet under fasting and fed conditions was evaluated in this study. This randomized, open‐label, single‐dose, 4‐way replicate, crossover, bioequivalence study included 64 healthy Chinese subjects (fasting cohort, n = 32; fed cohort, n = 32) who were assigned to ...
