Synergistic antifungal effects and mechanisms of amantadine hydrochloride combined with azole antifungal drugs on drug-resistant Candida albicans

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
IntroductionThe increasing resistance of Candida albicans (C. albicans) to conventional antifungal drugs poses a great challenge to the clinical treatment of infections caused by this yeast.

Introduction to Antifungal Drugs [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2000
In the United States, only 10 antifungal drugs are currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the therapy of systemic fungal infections. As shown in table 1, these drugs belong to 3 principal classes: polyenes, pyrimidines, and azoles.

The Viscoelastic Properties of the Fungal Cell Wall Allow Traffic of AmBisome as Intact Liposome Vesicles

open access: yesmBio, 2018
The fungal cell wall is a critically important structure that represents a permeability barrier and protective shield. We probed Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans with liposomes containing amphotericin B (AmBisome), with or without 15-nm ...

Rad53- and Chk1-Dependent DNA Damage Response Pathways Cooperatively Promote Fungal Pathogenesis and Modulate Antifungal Drug Susceptibility

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Genome instability is detrimental for living things because it induces genetic disorder diseases and transfers incorrect genome information to descendants.

Green synthesis of highly functionalized octahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole derivatives using subcritical water, and their anti(myco)bacterial and antifungal activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A series of novel 2-(thiazol-2-yl)-octahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrroles was synthesized by reaction of octahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole N-benzoylthiourea derivatives and α-haloketones in subcritical water at 130 °C in 75-91% yield.

Polyferrocene‐Based Cubosomes: Conversion to Magnetic Mesoporous Microparticles, Supramolecular Modification, and Oxidation Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyferrocene block copolymers are synthesized and assembled into micron‐sized polymer cubosomes with double diamond lattice and pore diameter of ≈30 nm. The ferrocene functionality is retained within the polymer cubosome wall as demonstrated on supramolecular modification, and oxidative disassembly.
