Antifungal hydrogels [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2007
Fungi are increasingly identified as major pathogens in bloodstream infections, often involving indwelling devices. Materials with antifungal properties may provide an important deterrent to these infections. Here we describe amphogel, a dextran-based hydrogel into which amphotericin B is adsorbed.

Plasma and Cerebrospinal Fluid Concentrations of Micafungin Administered at High Doses in Critically Ill Infants with Systemic Candidiasis: A Pooled Analysis of Two Studies

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2023
Background: Neonates may require higher doses of micafungin than adults to reach the therapeutic effect for increased plasma clearance. Only poor and inconclusive data are available still now to support this hypothesis, especially with regard to central ...

Computational Study of Benzimidazole Derivatives as Potential Antifungal Drugs

open access: yesProceedings, 2019
The infection of fungal diseases has increased in these last years due to the rise in immunodeficient patients, the resistance to current drugs, and the lack of design of new and efficient molecules against those pathogens [1]. [...]

Oral candidiasis-adhesion of non-albicans Candida species [PDF]

open access: yesZbornik Matice Srpske za Prirodne Nauke, 2008
Oral candidiasis is an opportunistic infection caused primarily by Candida albicans. However, in recent years, species of non-albicans Candida have been implicated more frequently in mucosal infection.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing for Three Malassezia Species

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
The Malassezia genus comprises lipid-dependent yeasts that have long been associated with common skin diseases, and have recently been linked with Crohn’s disease and certain cancers.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Antifungal Chemotherapeutics [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Principles and Practice, 2005
This review addresses trends in outcome and risk factors for invasive fungal infections, current antifungal agents and new therapeutic strategies. Current prospects for new therapies rest upon caspofungin, the first of a new class of antifungal molecules, the echinocandins, and new extended-spectrum azoles, voriconazole, posaconazole and ravuconazole ...

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Epidemiology and prognostic factors of mucormycosis in France (2012–2022): a cross-sectional study nested in a prospective surveillance programmeResearch in context

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Europe
Summary: Background: Mucormycosis is a deadly invasive fungal infection recently included in the WHO priority pathogen list. Here we sought to describe epidemiological trends of mucormycosis in France, and to evaluate factors associated with mortality ...
