A novel tissue culture method to produce professional antigen-presenting cells from rainbow trout in vitro

open access: yesComparative Immunology Reports
In this study, we describe a tissue culture method to identify and produce large quantities of professional antigen presenting cells (pAPCs) including dendritic cells (DCs) using fin explant cultures from rainbow trout.

The Role of Langerhans Cells in Antigen Presentation

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1985
Epidermal Langerhans cells are dendritic bone marrow-derived cells which synthesize and express Ia antigens. During the past decade, in vitro studies have demonstrated that they play a critical role in the induction of many types of T-cell responses.

Tumor clusters with divergent inflammation and human retroelement expression determine the clinical outcome of patients with serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...

Control of RelB during dendritic cell activation integrates canonical and noncanonical NF-κB pathways. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The NF-κB protein RelB controls dendritic cell (DC) maturation and may be targeted therapeutically to manipulate T cell responses in disease. Here we report that RelB promoted DC activation not as the expected RelB-p52 effector of the noncanonical NF-κB ...

Targeting dendritic cells in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2018
Dendritic cells (DC) are an integral part of the tumor microenvironment. Pancreatic cancer is characterized by reduced number and function of DCs, which impacts antigen presentation and contributes to immune tolerance.

Cytomegalovirus infection is common in prostate cancer and antiviral therapies inhibit progression in disease models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Human cytomegalovirus infection is common in normal prostate epithelium, prostate tumor tissue, and prostate cancer cell lines. CMV promotes cell survival, proliferation, and androgen receptor signaling. Anti‐CMV pharmaceutical compounds in clinical use inhibited cell expansion in prostate cancer models in vitro and in vivo, motivating investigation ...

Development of a new protocol for 2-day generation of mature dendritic cells from human monocytes

open access: yesBiological Procedures Online, 2003
We developed a new 2-day protocol for the generation of dendritic cells (DCs) from human monocytes in vitro. First, we demonstrated that 24 hours of culture with GM-CSF and IL-4 are sufficient to generate immature DCs capable of antigen uptake.

Antigen-Presenting Cells: Professionals and amateurs [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 1995
Professional antigen-presenting cells, notably dendritic cells, play a key role in stimulating naive T cells--but nonprofessional antigen-presenting cells, such as fibroblasts, may also contribute to this process.
