SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Antimicrobial resistance of nosocomial Acinetobacter spp. isolates in Russia: results of multicenter epidemiological study «MARATHON» 2013-2014 [PDF]

open access: yesКлиническая микробиология и антимикробная химиотерапия, 2017
Acinetobacter baumannii and related species of the A. baumannii complex are the common and one of the most difficult-to-treat nosocomial pathogens. In this paper, we report the data on antimicrobial susceptibility of 568 isolates of Acinetobacter spp ...

Establishment of a coculture system for Porphyromonas gingivalis and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using spheroid culture and LATS inhibition

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a spheroid coculture system enabling viable Porphyromonas gingivalis–HNSCC interactions under normoxic conditions. Inhibition of LATS1/2 maintains tumor cells in an undifferentiated state, which may promote spheroid growth and create a more permissive environment for bacterial persistence.

Determining the impact of professional body recommendations on the screening of acquired carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales in England

open access: yesInfection Prevention in Practice, 2023
Summary: Introduction: Acquired carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria are an increasing public health concern globally and have been mandatory to report in England since October 2020. However, in light of the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, the

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

A validation study on a standardized assessment algorithm for antimicrobial prescribing appropriateness

open access: yesAntimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology
Background: Since 2013, the Australian Hospital National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (Hospital NAPS) has provided a standardized framework for hospitals to assess the quality of antimicrobial prescribing.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Small molecule produced by Photorhabdus interferes with ubiquinone biosynthesis in Gram-negative bacteria

open access: yesmBio
We report the identification of 3,6-dihydroxy-1,2-benzisoxazole (DHB) in a screen of Photorhabdus and Xenorhabdus, whose symbiotic relationship with eukaryotic nematodes favors secondary metabolites that meet several requirements matching those for ...

Synergistic Antibiofilm Efficacy of Thymol and Piperine in Combination with Three Aminoglycoside Antibiotics against Klebsiella pneumoniae Biofilms

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2021
Background. Thymol and piperine are two naturally occurring bioactive compounds with several pharmacological activities. In this study, their antibiofilm potential either alone or in combination with three aminoglycoside antibiotics was evaluated against
