The antimicrobial activity of citral

Experientia, 1971

Antimicrobial activity of spices

International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, 1999
Spices have been shown to possess medicinal value, in particular, antimicrobial activity. This study compares the sensitivity of some human pathogenic bacteria and yeasts to various spice extracts and commonly employed chemotherapeutic substances. Of the different spices tested only garlic and clove were found to possess antimicrobial activity.

Antimicrobial activity of cecropins

Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 1996
The lytic peptides, cecropins, were originally isolated from the haemolymph of the giant silk moth, Hyalophora cecropia and possess antibacterial and anticancer activity in vitro. This study investigated the antimicrobial activity of these peptides against human pathogens using standardised assay techniques, and the activity of cecropin B on outer and ...

Antimicrobial activity of antiproteinases

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2001
Low-molecular-mass neutrophil elastase inhibitors have been shown to be important in the control of lung inflammation. In addition to inhibiting the enzyme neutrophil elastase, these low-molecular-mass compounds (10 kDa) have been shown to have other activities.

Kinetics of antimicrobial activity

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1986
Assessment of antimicrobial activity from standard in vitro minimum inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentration determinations alone is incomplete. Rate of bacterial killing, effect of increasing concentration, sub-MIC effects, and degree of suppression of bacterial growth after limited exposure (post-antibiotic effect) more precisely describe ...

Antimicrobial Activity of Chlormerodrin

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1979
A radiochemical study for antimicrobial activity of chlormerodrin was performed using some commonly occurring nonpathogenic and pathogenic microorganisms. Chlormerodrin concentrations of 15-35 and 20-45 microgram/ml of the culture medium were microbiostatic and microbicidal, respectively.

Engineering Antimicrobial Peptides with Improved Antimicrobial and Hemolytic Activities

Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling, 2013
The rapid rise of antibiotic resistance in pathogens becomes a serious and growing threat to medicine and public health. Naturally occurring antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are an important line of defense in the immune system against invading bacteria and microbial infection.

Antimicrobial activity of quaternized heteroxylans

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1994
A series of quaternized D-xylan polysaccharides, differing in the structural features of their macromolecular backbone, were tested for antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Antimicrobial activity of Evodia elleryana

Fitoterapia, 2000
The methanol extracts of Evodia elleryana, leaves, stem wood, stem bark, root wood and root bark were partitioned (petrol, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate). All obtained fractions showed a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, while none were active against tested moulds.

Antimicrobial activity of ultrasonic cleaners

Journal of Hospital Infection, 2005
This study assessed the antimicrobial activity of two cleaning solutions and tap water after varying periods of use in one ultrasonic cleaner. Testing involved filling the cleaner's tank and a centred glass beaker with the same test solution. An aluminium foil strip test first determined that no significant differences in cavitational activity existed ...
