Peptide Antimicrobial Agents [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology Reviews, 2006
SUMMARYAntimicrobial host defense peptides are produced by all complex organisms as well as some microbes and have diverse and complex antimicrobial activities. Collectively these peptides demonstrate a broad range of antiviral and antibacterial activities and modes of action, and it is important to distinguish between direct microbicidal and indirect ...

High level non-carbapenemase carbapenem resistance by overlaying mutations of mexR, oprD, and ftsI in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) is a global threat, but the mechanism of non-carbapenemase carbapenem resistance is still unclear. In the current study, we investigated the contributions of point mutations in mexR, oprD, and ftsI to ...

Polymorphism of ftsI gene in Haemophilus influenzae and emergence of cefotaxime resistance in two Tunisian hospitals

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2020
The decreased affinity to β-lactams in Haemophilus influenzae is usually caused by specific alterations in penicillin-binding protein 3 due to varieties of substitutions in ftsI gene. This study aimed to characterize the polymorphism of ftsI gene in 19 H.
