Antimicrobial resistance: capacity and practices among clinical laboratories in Kenya, 2013

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2014
INTRODUCTION: antimicrobial resistance is neglected in developing countries; associated with limited surveillance and unregulated use of antimicrobials. Consequently, delayed patient recoveries, deaths and further antimicrobial resistance occur.

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

Antimicrobial susceptibility of Aeromonas hydrophila

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1980
Minimal inhibitory concentration determinations and disk diffusion and Autobac 1 susceptibility tests were performed on 22 strains of Aeromonas hydrophila. Eleven of the strains had discrepancies between Autobac and disk diffusion or minimal inhibitory concentration results.

Bamboo Medical Application: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review presents a structured classification of bamboo's current use in healthcare. It organizes applications into medical textiles and medical devices, with further divisions based on function and level of invasiveness. It also examines material utilization based on bamboo's structural role, highlighting how it supports both protective and ...

RNF213 Is an Interferon‐Stimulated Gene That Targets Influenza A Virus NP and Activates MDA5 to Restrict Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNF213 is characterized as a dual‐functional antiviral effector. It directly mediates the degradation of the influenza A virus nucleoprotein (NP) while simultaneously activating the MDA5‐mediated innate immune signaling pathway. This coordinated response establishes a powerful host defense system against viral infection. ABSTRACT Influenza A virus (IAV)

Discovery of H2 Receptor Antagonists as Colistin Enhancers by Targeting Acid Stress Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies YqgB as a key target for restoring colistin susceptibility in mcr‐positive pathogens under acidic conditions by remodeling phospholipid composition and reducing LPS modification. Deep learning‐based screening reveals H2 receptor antagonists as novel colistin adjuvants. Further investigations indicate that ranitidine and famotidine

Endogenous “Time Bomb” – Mislocalized Phospholipase A2 as a Critical Mediator of Ultra‐Rapid Mortality in Sepsis and Acute Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phospholipase A2 (PLA2), a dormant enzyme, becomes lethal when activated—collapsing lungs in minutes. Our dual therapy (DOPS + varespladib) boosts survival from 0% to >90% in sepsis/ALI. A breakthrough for acute lung injury treatment. ABSTRACT This study reveals that phospholipase A2 (PLA2), normally stable and nontoxic, can be activated specifically ...

Variation in Pen-Level Prevalence of BRD Bacterial Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance Following Feedlot Arrival in Beef Calves

open access: yesAntibiotics
Antimicrobials are crucial for treating bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in beef feedlots. Evidence is needed to support antimicrobial use (AMU) decisions, particularly in the early part of the feeding period when BRD risk is highest. The study objective
