Bile duct loss on liver biopsy predicts future liver‐related events in early‐stage primary biliary cholangitis, even in patients with preserved liver function. This finding highlights the prognostic value of histological bile duct assessment at diagnosis and may guide early risk stratification and management decisions.

Autoantibodies are the diagnostic hallmark of autoimmune liver diseases. Indirect immunofluorescence (IFT) is the reference method for the detection of anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) and anti-liver kidney microsomal type-1 (anti-LKM1) antibodies ...

ABSTRACT Aim Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is an autoimmune liver disease marked by progressive bile duct damage, leading to bile retention. Dendritic cells (DCs), as antigen‐presenting cells, are crucial for immune regulation, and their dysfunction is linked to autoimmunity.

A Common Variant in CLDN14 is Associated with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and Bone Mineral Density. [PDF]
Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), a chronic autoimmune liver disease, has been associated with increased incidence of osteoporosis. Intriguingly, two PBC susceptibility loci identified through genome-wide association studies are also involved in bone ...

This study employed a two‐sample Mendelian randomization approach to assess the causal relationship between autoimmune liver diseases (AILD) and diabetes mellitus. We found that genetic predispositions to primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) were significantly associated with an increased risk of type 1 diabetes ...
