NATURAL ANTIOXIDANTS AS DEFENSE SYSTEM AGAINST CANCER

open access: yesAsian Journal of Pharmaceutical and Clinical Research, 2018
In living cells, the production of free radicals that comprise both reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species is highly regulated that help the cells to sustain redox homeostasis. Overproduction of ROS from mitochondrial electron transport chain leakage or excessive stimulation of xanthine oxidase and other oxidative enzymes leads to ...

Antimicrobial Efficacy of a Taurolidine‐Based Antimicrobial Compound on Contaminated Surfaces Simulated in a Standardized 4‐Field Test

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
As implantable medical devices become indispensable to modern medicine, a silent threat grows alongside them: device‐associated infections. Despite decades of antibiotic innovation, infection rates keep climbing, costing lives and billions in healthcare expenses.

Biological Antioxidant Defense System and Metallothionein.

open access: yesEisei kagaku, 1992
A biological role of metallothionein (MT) as a radical scavenger has been proposed. The hypothesis is based on the following two observations. One is that MT is induced by exposure to radical generating conditions such as paraquat, carbon tetrachloride or fasting.

Role of trehalose on antioxidant defense system and some osmolytes of quinoa plants under water deficit

open access: yesBulletin of the National Research Centre, 2019
BackgroundFor scavenging reactive oxygen species, plant possess effective system that protect them from destructive oxidative reaction. Parts of this system as osmoprotectants and antioxidative enzymes are key elements in the defense mechanisms.

Doxorubicin‐Loaded Metal–Organic Framework for Ferroptosis‐Enhanced Chemotherapy Through Sustained Zn Release and Glutathione Peroxidase Downregulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A robust zinc‐based metal–organic framework (ZnMOF) enables dual functions of doxorubicin delivery and sustained Zn2+ release to trigger ferroptosis‐enhnaced chemotherapy. DOX@ZnMOF effectively depletes intracellular glutathione, suppresses GPX4, and elevates reactive oxygen species, leading to efficient oxidative DNA damage and apoptosis.

Seasonal changes in antioxidative/oxidative profile of mining and non-mining populations of Syrian beancaper as determined by soil conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Soil pollution by heavy metals/metalloids (HMMs) is a problem worldwide. To prevent dispersion of contaminated particles by erosion, the maintenance of a vegetative cover is needed.
